“First National Bank of Bosque County and NationsBank of Clifton
have generously started our program to march with all 50 flags by
donating $100 each. The Clifton Record has added their donation to
purchase the Oregon state flag, which is the only two-side flag in the
union,” commented Stephens.
The cost of a state flag varies by state, depending on the design of
the flag and the difficulty in printing its design.
Individuals or businesses interested in sponsoring a flag to complete
the CES Flag Corps’ collection, and help the group represent Clifton in
upcoming events, may call Stephens at the elementary school at (817)

• COURT
Continued From Pago One
on prioritization of rural and farm-to-
market roads in Bosque County. Hie
commissioners have held several
discussions on this topic during
recent court sessions
Texas Department of
Transportation (TxDOT) District
Supervisor Glen Drake, Meridian,
told the court that he was unable to
determine what types of roads were
being requested by a San Antonio
legislator in the prioritized list
request.
Drake told the court there are
currently no funds from TxDOT for
work on non-state roadways, but the
agency might be looking to see if the
need for those types of funds exists.
Drake encouraged the court to send
in their lists.
‘You didn’t bring the answer we
were looking for," Bosque County
Judge Ernest W. Reinke, Jr. told
Drake, thanking him for his input.
The court decided to compile a list
and forward it to TxDOT in Austin.
District Attorney Requests
Advance Of Funds
District Attorney Andy McMullen,
220th Judicial District, had
requested an advance of funds
required for his defense in a civil
matter. McMullen requested the
funds be paid by Bosque County, or
by Titan Indemnity Company, an
insurance carrier.
In discussion by the court, it
appeared McMullen was asking for
up to $1,250 to be advanced to his
office, to pay the deductible amount
not covered by his insurance.
“I think we probably should pay
this,” said Precinct 1 Commissioner
Rick Kelley. “He can’t win them all.”
Bosque County Attorney B.J.
Shepherd told the court that
McMullen requested the funds from
Bosque County, rather than the
three-county judicial district, because
the action stemmed from a case in
Bosque County.
Needing further information to act,
the court deferred action until more
information could be gathered.
Heat And Air Units Declared
As Surplus Property
Two central heat and air
conditioning units in the building
which will house the Bosque County
Collection (BCC) were declared
surplus property by the court, at the
request of Elizabeth Torrence, BCC
chairman.
“In the master plan (remodeling
the building), both units figured to
be replaced. Gas heating units with
open flames are not considered safe
in an archives building,” Torrence
told the court.
The Commissioners agreed to
declare the property surplus. The
court will decide on disposition at a
later date.
Court To Pay For Justice of the
Peace’s Office Remodeling
Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace
Bennett Morrow appeared before the
court asking for payment of $281 in
bills incurred during remodeling of
his office. Morrow told the court that
roughly $1,500 worth of work had
been done, but that he used inmate
labor to dramatically cut costs.
“The remodeling was done in the
name of court security,” he said. “The
project is now complete.”
Precinct 3 Commissioner Calvin
Rueter expressed concern that
Morrow had not asked for permission
before proceeding with the work.
“If all the county officers decided
to remodel their offices, and then
submit the bills, we'd have a big
mess on our hands. I just wish this
had been done right,” Rueter said.
Commissioner Rueter then made
the motion to pay Morrow’s bills. The
motion passed unanimously.
Court Appointment
The commissioners received and
filed an order of appointment from
the 220th Judicial District Court.
Debbie Kibler, Meridian, has been
appointed as an assistant auditor.
Miscellany
The court operated with only Pet.
2 Commissioner David Jones absent
from the proceedings.
In usual business, the court
approved payment of claims, ss lanes,
and wages against county and
precinct funds, and approved several
line item transfers.
December’s regular session of the
court is scheduled for Monday, Dec.
12, at 9 a.m., in the Bosque County
Courthouse, Mendian.

be expected on a daily basis. Drake
urged motorists to slow down, drive
with caution, and observe all
warning signs and flaggers.
Work on the $160,030 project
should be completed by early 1995.
Young Contractors will do similar
repairs on Texas Highway 6 between
Meridian and the Hamilton County
line. No date has been set for the
beginning of this $238,505 project.
