CLIFTON — A card with
original artwork by Jo Atkinson
of an angel watching
over American troops,
hangs in the recre-
ation hall of an Apache

Atkinson is a local
artist that has been in-
volved with several
different community
projects. Recently, she
that included a Day at the Old
County Fair.
A friend informed
Atkinson that her
card had been sent to
Iraq with their
nephew and his
Apache helicopter
unit, where it was
hung in their recre-
ation hall for inspira-
tion. The friend noted
that the unit is the
only unit to serve a
full tour of duty in Iraq

packed up to come home, they
packed the Angel with them
and a new unit replaced them
in Iraq. That unit lost 10 men
and three or four helicopters in
a relatively short time after ar-
riving.
The nephew determined that
the Angel needed to go back
over to act as a guardian for the
remaining guys, and therefore
returned the card to Iraq. He
said that it will remain there
with each successive group
that rotates in to replace a unit
that is rotating out.
