Local Monolithic Dome Home Open For Tour Oct. 19
CLIFTON - One of the area’s
most unusual homes will be open
for touring on Saturday, Oct. 19, as
part of the second annual Fall
Dome Home Show. The Mono-
lithic Dome home is among more
than 50 domes in 15 states on the
tour of homes co-sponsored by the
Monolithic Dome Institute and the
Monolithic Dome Builders Asso-
ciation.
The home, owned by Jim Gib-
bons, at 1362 FM 708 (Cayote
Road), seven miles east of Clifton,
will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The one-story home is comprised
of three different domes with an
igloo-like entrance. It measures
2,000 square feet.
Admission is $2 per person, or
33 per family
Monolithic Domes are round,
steel-reinforced, concrete build-
ings known for their energy effi-
ciency, durability, and strength.
They can cost as much as 50-per-
cent less to heat and cool than tra-
ditional structures and are strong
enough to withstand tornadoes,
hurricanes, and even earth-
quakes.
The tour is designed to raise the
awareness of the dome homes which
are quickfy gaining in popularity.
