THE CLIFTON RECORD — BOSQUE COUNTY, U.S.A.
FRIDAY JUNE 23, 2006
(^Jeocm!
A Welcome From W. Leon Smith, Publisher, The Clifton Record
A
As publisher of Thk Clifton
Record, I welcome you to Bosque
County if you are a newcomer to
this region. This special edition
focuses on some of the ele-
ments of our communities
that tourists and new resi-
dents might find useful. For
our regular readers and
residents, it is our hope that
those obtaining a copy of the
2005 edition of “Bosque
County, Texas, U.S. A.” will
retain it as a keepsake, for it
tells where Clifton is on the
sliderule at this noteworthy junc-
ture.
The Clifton Record, the city’s
oldest surviving newspaper and
Clifton’s oldest business, joins the
advertisers in this section in wel-
coming you to Bosque County, a
land of diverse resources and qual
ity-of-living opportunities that make
this region of Central Texas an en
joyable place to visit and a great
place to settle down and raise a fam-
ily
Much of the information in this
newcomers’/visitors’/information
guide has appeared, in part, in other
sections we have offered in the re-
cent past, such as in our historic
Souvenir Centennial Edition pub-
lished in 1995, when The Record cel-
ebrated its 100th birthday.
We felt a need to compile as much
updated promotionary material as
we could into a single edition,
so that newcomers to the
area and visitors can have
easily accessible informa-
tion in order to more conve-
niently learn about their
surroundings and become fa-
miliar with the traditions,
people, and opportunities
that define Bosque County.
It’s a good primer for old-tim
ers, too, who can in a single
edition look at elements of Bosque
County that might otherwise be
taken for granted.
The Record is making free copies
available to agencies in the county
that might wish to distribute them
at trade and tourist shows, or to
have them available to the public as
the year progresses.
The publication of Bosque County,
Texas, U.S.A. was a major undertak-
ing for The Clifton Record and its
staff, and it is likely that although
we tried very hard to leave no stone
unturned, something that should
have been included in the section is
missing. For that, in the event it oc-
curred, we offer our sincere apolo-
gies, but ask that you let us know
about it so we can pencil it in for
next year’s edition.
Too, our staff tried to personally
contact every business we thought
might be interested in advertising
in this useful section.
In the event successful contact
was not made with someone wish-
ing to have an advertisement, we
apologize. Again, let us know so we
will make a stronger effort next
time.
We hope as you thumb through
the pages of Bosque County, Texas,
U.S.A. you will learn some tidbits
about the history of the county and
its specific territories that are new
to you. There are useful telephone
numbers in this section, plus maps,
information about some of the ser-
vices, programs, and services of-
fered here, and photographs that are
worth thousands of words.
We hope you like this section and
encourage you to save it and use it
throughout the year. Constructive
suggestions for next year’s version
are encouraged.
I would like to close by encourag-
ing you to follow the pages of The
Clifton Record each week as we
chronicle the heartbeat of Bosque
County and its citizens.
