A PORTION OF THE LOCAL 4-H YOUTHS who helped make the recent golf tour-
nament at Bosque Valley Golf Club a success gathered for a group photo. Shown
with members of the evening shift are former officers Brittany Winkler (front, left)
and Courtney Domel (front, right). Current members shown included James Jack-
son (immediate past-president), Jason Jackson (newly-elected president), Abby
Harris, Liza Harris, Tessa Doty, John Warnock, Lydia Warnock, Stephanie Roper,
Garrett Cline, Shelby Crockett, Wesley Crockett, Ty Evans, Megan Noland, Kaci
Noland, and Chase Berry.
BOSQUE COUNTY 4-H COUNCIL PRESIDENT James Jack-
son shows off the board listing the many sponsors who helped
make this year’s 4-H Lucky Clover Golf Tournament another
huge success.
4-H Tradition Draws Reunion At Lucky Clover Golf Tourney
MERIDIAN — Former 4-Hers
drooped in on some younger 4-H la-
borers during the recent annual
Lucky Clover 4-H Golf Tournament
held at the Bosque Valley Golf
Course near Meridian.
“Many former youths know all
about the labor to set this event in
motion, and are grateful for the
positive returns,” said Donna Ed-
wards, Texas Cooperative Exten-
sion (Meridian) program assistant.
Courtney Domel, a Texas A&M
Graduate and current SMU law
school student, served as a county
and district 4-H officer, and has
been a 4-H member for seven years.
Brittany Winkler, a sophomore at
Texas A&M, also served as county
president as well as a club presi-
dent.
“Both ladies are acquainted with
the leg and muscle workout while
facilitating the annual tourna-
ment,” Stevens said.
Another former 4-H officer seen
at the tourney was Jonathan
Winkler, a Texas A&M student who
paid to play rather than work.
“After serving the county and dis-
trict 4-H Council before entering
college, he had earned that playing
privilege through the years,”
Stevens noted.
Matthew Domel home for the
summer from Texas A&M, was
seen enjoying the steaks his father
prepared for the players. All four of
the above alumni have been recipi-
ents of local 4-H scholarships.
While the former officers were
welcomed home, it was the current
4-H members who made the tour-
nament work as well as it did. Ar-
riving before 7:30 a.m. and working
shifts through 10 p.m., the youths
ran errands, loaded ice chests, set
tables, sorted food items, greeted
golfers, emptied trash hourly,
swept, poured tea, waited tables,
and thanked the players.
“It was a lot of work, but the
members will attest that the pro-
ceeds provide scholarships, leader-
ship training events, and awards
presented to qualifying 4-H’ers,”
Stevens explained.
When the day was done, winners
in the two flights included:
• Morning Flight—1st place, Ja-
son Anz, Grady Burden, Dale
Hulme, and David Burden; 2nd
place, Tim Kleine, Jim Mitchell,
Robert Merchant, and Vernon
Worley; 3rd place, Jimmy
McDonald, Michael Hafercamp,
Damon Patterson, and Jonathan
Winkler.
• Afternoon Flight — 1st
place, Brad Lampman, J.D.
Griffith, and Chip Eaton; 2nd
place, Cole Word, Mike Schmidt,
Glen Land, and Chris Land; 3rd
place, Tommy Johnson, Conrad
Knudson, Greg Anderson, and
Mario Ballesteros.
