Central Texas Fair Horse
Show Begins A Tradition
CLIFTON — Since 1931,
the Central Texas Youth Fair
has been showcasing home-
economics and livestock en-
tries of the youth of Bosque
and the seven adjoining
counties. In 2006, the
B.C.H.A. sponsored the first
ever horse show with rave
reviews and an impressive^
youth representation.
The Grand Champion
Mare was exhibited by
Alyssa Crow of Hill County.
Corw is one of the 2006 year-
ling project award winners
through the BCHA yearling
program. She received a
buckle, embroidered stall
sheet and $150 added money.
The Reserve Champion
Mare was exhibited by
Stephanie Roper and she
won her mare in the 2005
BCHA Yearling program.
Stephanie won an embroi-
dered stall sheet and $100
added money.
The Grand Champion
Gelding was exhibited by
Holly Dane of Johnson
County. Dane also won a
buckle, embroidered sheet
and $150 added money. The
Reserve Champion Gelding
was exhibited by Lydia
Warnock of Bosque County.
Warnock won an embroi-
dered stall sheet and $100
added money.
The Junior Showmanship
Champion was Grand Cham-
pion Gelding winner Holly
Dane. She received a jackpot
check for $125 after besting
five entrants. The Senior
Showmanship Champion
was Lydia Warnock. In addi-
tion to her Reserve Chamion
Gelding honors, she received
a jackpot check for $200 af-
ter besting seven entrants.
All Showmanship entrants
all received a brief clinic on
improving their showman-
ship skills from Judge, Dave
Golden of Madisonville.
“The BCHA Directors wish
to congratulate all entrants
and are enormously pleased
at the manner in which all
the kids exhibited their
horses and we are looking
forward to next year,” said a
spokesman. “We appreciate,
the show of support from
horse enthusiasts in and
around Bosque County - the
future of the horse industry
is bright.”

Scramblers Win Big
CLIFTON — More than 35
area youth signed up to chase
steers in the Clifton Rodeo
arena for the chance to earn
money to apply towards the pur-
chase of a show animal for the
2007 Central Texas Fair. Hard
work having paid off, 16 went
home claiming victory.
Watching the first-time event
had the crowd yelling and clap-
ping, and sometimes gasping.
Kids dove in to catch a steer by
the head to then put on a halter
and more than a few ended up
flat on their backs on the
ground. Each one got up and
jumped back in the chase.
Contestants were required to
catch a calf, halter the animal,
and drag it into a designated
area of the arena. If more than
one caught the same animal, all
had to release and begin again.
The event was held all three
nights of the rodeo, allowing the
youth to compete until they
caught an animal. Sponsors by
the Cliton Horse Show Associa-
tion, members said that they
were very pleased with the in-
terest from both the youth and
patrons.
Those claiming a capture in-
clude Chase Berry of Iredell; Ja-
son Jackson of Meridian;
Andrea Bird of Cranfills Gap;
Kevin Boyle of Clifton; Wade
Hanson of Clifton; Morganne
Mathews of Clifton; John
Warnock of Valley Mills; Danny
Ray Bird of Cranfills Gap; and
Chad Selman of Cranfills Gap.
Others are Ely Long of Valley
Mills; Bennett Guillory of Clif-
ton; Chapman Guillory of Clif-
ton; Kasey Noland of Clifton;
Amanda Necessary of Clifton;
Eddy Whitt of Walnut Springs;
and Lana Hartley of Clifton.
Of these 16 youth, 11 re-
quested calf money, three re-
quested sheep money; one
requested swine money, and one
requested goat money. Amounts
have yet to be determined, but
all will be paid a set amount
based on species.
According to the head of the
Calf Scramble Committee
Jamie Zander, “We really feel
that it allows the kids the chance
to compete and earn some
money, where otherwise they
may not. So many don’t get the
chance to go to Houston or Dal-
las to scramble.”
He continued, “All of the kids
had a wonderful time. This event
was a tremendous success and
we hope to be able to do it again
next year.”
