The mighty Cranfills Gap Lions

here Thursday night by trounc-
ing the Blum Bobcats, 67-21.
Steve Ottmers opened the Lion
scoring spree early in the first
quarter on a l-yard run for the
touchdown. Bruce Knudson add-
ed two points, as his kick sailed
through the uprights for the
extra points. Later in the first
quarter Knudson got in on the
scoring spree as he galloped 15-
yards to pay dirt to up the Lion
lead in the first quarter 14 to zip.
During the second quarter of
play, David Hastings got into (he

four good carries by crossing the
goal from 1 yard out. Knudson
came in to kick the extra points
as the Lions led, 22-0.
Stephen Ottmers brought the
crowd to their feet as he picked
off a Bobcat aerial and returned
it 60 yards for a touchdown. The
Lions no# led the Bobcats 23-0.
Th? Bobcats, however, were
not to be denied as the returned
the Lion kick-off 50 yards for
a touchdown and passed for the
extra point to tack 7 points on
the board. Then Blum came back
and started a drive that ended
with another touchdown and an-
other 7 points.
Raymond Riveria ended the
first half of action as he ran 12
yards for a Lion touchdown. The
half ended with the Lions in the
lead, 34 to 14.
Stephen Ottmers also opened

Robinson’s quarterback, Blake
Rasner, hit seven for seven on
his passes last Friday night at
Robinson to overcome the Cubs’
valiant ground effort; die score
was 21 to 13 for Robinson, hand-
ing the Cubs their first defeat of
die year and a loss in their first
district contest
Rasner’s night of perfect pass-
ing was made possible by fine
receptions on the part of his end,
Rusty Erwin; one of which was
an almost unbelievable one hand-
ed grab, which resulted in the
go ahead touchdown for the
Rockets.
The Cubs gave a great effort
to come back. Robinson scored
first on a 34-yard touchdown pass
in the second1 quarter, but failed
to kick the extra point. The
Cubs came right back with hard
running by Joe Todd, C. L. Sin-
derud, and Randy Kleine to
march 68 yards for a touch-
down Grimland kicked the extra
point to put the Cubs in the lead
7 to 6, which they held the rest
of the first half.
Clifton threatened a second
touchdown upon getting Robin-
son’s short punt on the Rocket
38 and marching to the 12. Here,
on fourth down and one to go,
loss,
**■> In the second half. Clifton re-
ceived the kick-off but hod to
punt on the first series. Taking
the ball on their 39, Robinson
made effective use of three pass
completions to move for four
first downs and to the three-
yard line, from where Rasner
took it over for a touchdown.
The Rockets were successful
Tax Office At

The Clifton Independent School
District Tax Office is now local
ed at the now Clifton High
School. It moved from Us for-
irier location in The Clifton
Record Building earlier this year.
* Supt. of Schools Kent Appleby
issued the reminder of the
chqnge of location so that tax-
payers would not make a need-
>: teas trip to the old office, he
said.’The Lundberg Tax Serv-
ice hfcw occupies JhC former
site of Uic school tax office,
in their effort for two and went
back in the lead, 14-7.
On their next possession, Rob-
inson made use of Willie Web-
ster to pick up two first downs,
then completed two passes for
two more first downs and a
touchdown; the score came on a
20-yard Rasner-to-Erwin pass.
Try for extra point was good and
Robinson took a 21 to 7 lead.
Starting the fourth quarter or
their own 23-yard line, die Cubs
put fear into the hearts ol the
Robinson fans. Cub backs Toad,
Sinderud, and Kleine, giving
that second effort time after
time, moved 77 yards for their
second touchdown, Sinderud tak-
ing it in from the 11. The Cubs
tried for two points, but the ef-
fort failed; score, Robinson 21,
Clifton 13.
After Robinson had rushed for
two first downs, Clifton gained
good field position by recovering
a Rocket fumble on the latter’s
46 wijth just over two minutes
left. But after a first down had
moved the Cubs to the Rocket 37,
a tipped Robert’s pass was in-
tercepted by Robinson to snuff
out most of Clifton’s hope.
The Cubs regained possession
of the ball on their 28 with less
than a minute. One-first down
was picked up; but the clock rau
out (xi the Cubs.
Even in the loss, a number of
the Cubs were outstanding—Todd
Sinderud, and Kleine in their
hard rushing behind good block-
ing up front and hard defensive
ground play by Warren Dahl,
John Grimland, John Musselman,
Danny Bergman, and Itandy
Kleine. ,
The Cubs are far from being
out of the district running; the
district has seven strong t‘„ams,
each capable of knocking the
other ovbr cn any given night.
It will be interesting to see what
is ahead and how the Cubs come
back next week.

son, are as follows;
