Green on national panel
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Dr.
Alexia Green, RN, Ph.D, of
Livingston has been appointed by
U.S. Rep. Charlie Wilson to a Na-
tional Health Care Task Force,
made up of health care profes-
sionals, educators and small-
business owners from throughout
the 19-county Second Congres-
sional District.
The 17-member panel will focus
on health care reform proposals
pending before Congress to deter-
mine the effect of each upon the
residents of East and Southeast
Texas.
Green, who chairs the nursing
department at Lamar University,
has been actively involved in health
care delivery and education for 23
years and also serves on the Board
of Directors of the Texas Nurses
Association. She received her
bachelor's and master’s degrees
from the University of Texas and
her Ph.D in nursing from Texas
Woman’s University.
She previously worked at Polk
County Memorial Hospital before
joining Lamar University as nurs-
ing department chair. Green lives in
the Big Sandy community and is
the daughter of Dorothy and Benny
Griffin, also of Big Sandy.
"I hope to represent not only
nursing’s views, but also the
perspective of a consumer on this
important panel," Green said. "I
praise Congressman Wilson for
seeking input from a variety of con-
stituents within Southeast Texas. I
hope to work with this panel to ad-
vise Congressman Wilson on which
health care plan will be the most
beneficial for all Americans and to
participate in soliciting the support
of Southeast Texas in supporting I
the best plan."
Other members of the panel in-
clude: Dr. Steve Elliott, chiroprac-
tor, Liberty; Dr. J.C. Clement, den-
tist, Lufkin; Dr. Thomas Duncan,
eye specialist, Lufkin; Patricia
McKenzie, Ph.D, health care
educator at Angelina College, Luf-
kin; Mickey McNamara, health in-
surance, Orange; Sidney Dauphin,
administrator, Texas Home Health,
Silsbee; Terry Cutler, ad-
ministrator, Trinity Memorial
Hospital, Trinity; Kathleen
Wegener, administrator, Houston
County Hospital, Crockett; Dr. Joe
Cunningham, physician, Jackson-
ville; Dr. Keith Miller, physician,
Center; Dr. Charles Monday,
physician, Huntsville; Doyle Haw-
kins, pharmacist, Buna; Peter Ger-
gen, physician assistant, San
Augustine; Gary Alexander, small-
business owner, Lufkin; Dr. An-
thony Zollo, chief medical officer,
Lufkin Veterans Outpatient Clinic,
Lufkin; and Mary Novark,
women’s health, Huntsville.
"Knowing how heated the debate
here in Washington is on this topic,
I expect that many differences of
opinion will arise among this group
as well," Wilson said. "However, I
am hopeful that we will be able to
reach an agreement on a proposal
that may be beneficial to all."
The panel is expected to hold a
series of meetings in early 1994.
