ONE FOR EVERYBODY—Turkish orphans anxiously await their turns to re-
ceive Yo Yo dolls at an Ankara orphanage. The dolls were made and shipped
to Turkey by Taylor church women.
The PRAYER
For Today From
The UPPER ROOM
Yield yourselves unto God,
as those that are alive from
the dead, and' your members
as instruments of righteous-
ness unto God. (Romans 6:13)
PRAYER: Our Father, we
pray that we ' may be eager
to attain the best. Help us to
grow more and more discon-
tented with the pettiness and
the sinfulness of our own lives
so misguided when we reject
Christ. Guide us with the pre-
sence of Christ. In the name
of Jesus we ask these things.
Amen.

In Turkish Orphanage
“Mom, buy me that,’’ or “Dad-
dy, let me buy that’’ are ordi-
nary requests from, children in
these United States; but not so
with the children of Turkey, and
especially in the Kecioren orphan-
age at Ankara, where colored
papers were just about all the
small boys and girls had for
playing.
However, a Taylor woman
started a move to provide each
child with a toy, and passed the
job to the women of the First
Baptist Ghurch of Taylor.
Mrs. L. B. (Buck) Baker, who
is remembered as the former
Pansy Webb, visited the orphan-
age and took out some empty

Her heart was touched when two
of the children fought over an
empty tuna can.
Locally, in the city where her
husband is technical assistant to
the foreign aid program under
the State Department, Mrs. Bak-
er organized American and Tur-
kish women to visit the orphan-
age each week and help. .
First thought was to provide
each child with a toy and in
that project, the Taylor women
made thousand's of small, gay
colored circles of cloth to be
strung into yo.yo dolls.
The idea spread and women of
every denomination in Taylor
joined either by giving colored
scraps for the making of the
dolls or my making the small
circles. These were packed in
two boxes and shipped to Mrs.
Baker by Mrs. Van Slagle, her
sister.
The dolls were not sufficient to
provide one for each child,
smaller children receiving the
dolls;, next in age either a soap
can cart or a soda pop can push
toy, and older girls' a new dress
each.
Another change has been made
through the chapel group. Tables
and chairs have been, made
available for the children, who
formerly had sat on the floor
and' had eaten their meals from
their laps.
Mrs. Baker heads the gray
lady group for the chapel group,
which includes American and
Turkish women; Girl Scouts, and
Protestant Youth Organizations.
A white elephant party netted
some $800 for orphanage im-
provement and two washing ma-
chines and a sewing machine
were bought and installed.
And each Saturday, the chapel
group takes eggs and fruit out
to the children.
In her last letter, Mrs. Baker
announces that she and Buck will
be home in November.
