terations of our law's as they think best suited
to our condition.- Mr. Williamson said he
should vote no on the ground that we have al-
ready an appropriate committee that on the
judiciary selected for their talents worth and
merit.
Mr- Armstrong if in order would state his
reasons for that resolution. The judiciary
committee had upon their hands; such a varie-
ty and multiplicity of business as to render
the proper discharge of their duties impossible.
After advising with some of the members up-
on that committee and others he thought it
would be beneficial to appoint three four or
five persons who should give their best atten-
tion to that specific subject. Such a course
could do no harm and might be productive
of benefit. Resolution adopted: Messrs Arm-
strong. Robinson Wallace Smyth of Jasper
and Menefee were appointed said committee.
Bills introduced.
5y Sir. Johns a bill lor the appointment of

On motion of Mr. vr llJiamsom tne House
Mr. Williamson addressed the House : I
am much indebted to gentlemen upon this floor
who seek to bring up this bantling of mine
and present it to the House with all its deform-
ities upon it at this particular crisis in affairs.
I would most gravely and sincerely express
nnr acknowledgements to the gentleman from
Matagorda for calling up and calling out such
a looking thing as that. But the object of
the motion is too plain too manifest for that
gentleman with all his ingenuity to deceive
even the father of that illegitimate offspring.
Let that child alone Mr. Speaker: It will
nurse itself Sir. Don't bring it up iiow Sir.
It has been resting so long in the cradle it
might not be so easily destroyed as the gen-
tleman from Matagorda and those who back
nim might suppose. They have ranked and
sized here; they have counted noses ; but
they can't strangle that infant. It will not be
waked up on this occasion. It. is a quiet little
baby Sir; and lsay let it alone gentleman
from Matagorda and gentlemen from all other
counties let it alone if you please.
1 feel much indebted to the House for having
made this bill the special order .ofilie day for
last Mondaxv JTJcnitr was-JJiat-anotherdbill-requiring
thcyJPresidcnt and Heads of Depart
ments to 50 back to the city ot Austin was
also made the special order of the day. And
by the courtesy of the House 1 discussed the
question upon the engrossment-of that joint
resolution. I then met that question fairly
and 1 have never yet seen any fighting back
Sir. Expressing then my sense of the cour-
tesy of the House I would simply beg that
this other bantling be laid on the table. Gen-
tlemen perhaps want to hear something more
about their own resolution. If they wish that
brought up 1 have no objection ; but let them
not reach over their own baby to wake up mine
Mr. Speaker. I hope the motion to take up
thts bill will be refused by the House.
Question put and carried; the bill was taken
up and on motion of Mr. Scurry referred.ao
the committee "on the state of the Republic. .
Mr. Williamson moved that .the bill giv
ing the location of the seat of government to
the people together withlhe Report of a por-.

redemption of William and Jane Simpson;

The bill for the protection of the northern
frontier; the bill supplementary to an act en-
titled an act to change jn part the times of
holding the District Courts in the oth and 7th j
judicial districts; the bill to repeal the 17th
section of the act establishing the powers and
jurisdiction of the district courts; the bill. to re-
duce the salaries of the District Judges and
majority there is no necessity existing for dis-
cussion here yet sir I think it my right to
lay my views upon this subject before this.
House and the country. I pretend not sir
to expect any change in the opinions of gen-
tlemen here to be effected by any remarks of
mine; but sir there is a tribunal to which I
appeal upon this occasion. Turning from
this House I address myself to the' country
in general. To that country 1 appeal for
justice in this matter. AVithout further pre-
lude I will proceed to give my views and
my reasons for voting as I shall u pout this
question. - And 1 tr.us1tvsir that you and the
House will allow me some degree of latitude
since I have not heretofore biien permitted to
discuss it. I (declined a participation in the
debate wheiuthe question was up the other
day because 1 yas willing that the field
should remain open for gentlemen on both"
sides deferring what few remarks I had to"
make to the present occasion Now sir.cut
