ties in this State on the first Monday (the

ties (and in case of a vacancy in the ollice of

polls to be opened at tho several precinct ol

Jay (the fourth day) of August next for the
election as aforesaid of a Governor a Lieu-

The chief ju-nices (or county commission-
ers in cases uherein they are authorized b
law to discharge the duties of chief justice)
of the several counties of the Slate will
promptly make duplicate returns of the elec-
tions for Governor and Lieutenant-Governor
carefully sealed up one of nhich shall be
transmitted to the scat of Gmcrnmcnt and
directed to the Speaker of the House of Rep
resentatives endmsed " Election returns of
county fur Governor and Lieutenant-
Governor" and the other shall be deposited
in the office of the clerk of the counlv couri.

respective terms of office ; and whereas ihe
respective terms of the said offices expire on
Ibe 2d March 1S52.
Therefore I do hereby further order and
direct that the chief justices of the several
counties (and in case of a vacancy in the of-
fice of chief justice or inability of that officer
to act then any two of Ihe county comm's
sinners) cause polls to be opened at the sev
eral precincts ol their respective counties on
