Breaking Ground for the new Elementary

On Monday, June 15, 2009,
Cooper Independent School
District held the Groundbreaking
Ceremony for the new elementary
school to be built on the site of the
former Bulldog football stadium.
The new school is planned to be
approximately 57, 750 square feet
which will encompass kindergarten
through fifth grade for a total of
18 classrooms. The new structure
will also have administrative areas,
a music room, science room, life
skills, library, cafeteria with a
stage area, computer lab, and other
specialty rooms. The new school
will also have a physical education
gym and a teacher’s workroom with
a fully equipped kitchen. There are
alternates included in the plans to
add another 4,500 square feet for
Head Start classrooms, office and
family center.
The celebration included brief
speeches from Superintendent Jason
Marshall, Doug Wicks, elementary
principal, Pat Ainsworth, elementary
teacher, Thomas Darden, president
of the school board and two
students, Savana Waller and Haley
White, who will begin fifth grade in
the new school.
A special acknowledgement
was given to all of the school board
members, past and present, who
helped make this event possible
and those members include
Thomas Darden, president; Jeremy
Anderson, secretary; Anita Moody,
vice president; Jake Vaughn, Blake
Randle, Shey Stegall, Darren
Braddy, Chad Hohenberger, Chad
Barnes and Gary McCain.
In the photo above, building
contractors and architect, school
board members and administrative
staff and in the photo below, students
all take part in tossing shovelfuls
of dirt to kick off the construction
phase of the school.
Miss Enloe named
End of the Season
Preparations continue
for Enloe’s annual July 4
celebration, and parade
organizers announce
that Daymon (Huggins)
Thompson has been named
for the honored position
of Miss Enloe 2009! Mrs.
Thompson has enjoyed life
for 89 years, and while she
currently makes her home at
the Carriage House Manor
in Sulphur Springs, she has
always called Enloe “home.”
Daymon Huggins
became the bride of Jo Allen
Thompson in August 1938
and that marriage continued
for 58 years until the death
of Mr. Thompson in 1996.
They raised five children in
Enloe: Melba Duckworth,
of Dallas; Allen Thompson
(deceased); Monroe
Thompson (deceased);
Keith Thompson of San
Antonio; and Shirley Preas
of Cooper. Mrs. Thompson
has 11 grandchildren 27 great
grandchildren, and 4 great
great grandchildren.
Miss Enloe 2009 will
enjoy a place of honor in
the July 4 parade through
Enloe. All participants in the
parade should begin to line
up at the community center
parking lot at 4:30 p.m. as
the parade is set for 5:00 p.m.
Immediately following the
parade, everybody is invited
to the community center for
the annual cookout.
