Cooper Review - Page 5
Bulldogs and Dogettes get wins
Tuesday February 3rd
was senior night, honoring
the senior athletes who play
basketball. Cooper played at
home versus the Alba Golden
Panthers. The Dogettes
jumped out to an early 5-0
lead but did not score again
until under a min left in the
first with a couple of free
throws. Alba Golden led 11-7
at the end of the first quarter.
The Girls went back and forth
trading buckets for most of
the second quarter and on the
Dogettes last possession of
the quarter Elizabeth Williams
knocked down two free throws
to bring them within one, 18-
19. Alba Golden scored two
quick buckets to start off the
third quarter for a 22-18 lead.
Cooper came right back and
with under two minutes left in
the third Rose Sampson scored
and got fouled but missed the
free throw and the game was
tied at 24-24. Alba Golden
however would add three
more points before the end of
the third and led 27-24. The
lady Panthers were ahead by
four, 31-27 with three minutes
left in the fourth quarter when
Mariah Williams hits a 3.
Then on defense Mariah got
a steal and took it back for
the score and got fouled. She
would miss the free shot but
the Dogettes led for the first
time in the game since early
in the beginning minutes, 32-
31. The Dogettes extend their
lead 35-31. Alba Golden not
giving up tied the game at 35
with under a min left in the
quarter. On the Dogettes next
possession Stacy Hearn drives
to the bucket and makes a nice
pass to an open Emily Landers
who scored and got fouled.
She would make the free
throw and sealed the game 35-
38. Cooper Mariah Williams
scored 9, Elizabeth Williams
scored 6, Amber Adams
7, Emily Landers 5, Rose
Sampson 3, Stacy Heam 4,
Susanna Wilson 2. The Varsity
Boys also won easily, 52-35,
against Alba Golden Richard
Larry was the leading scorer
with 13, Landon Rackley had
10 points, and Keyon Walker
had 7. The Boys then went
on to beat Winnsboro 58-52,
Larry had 18 points, Tommy
Walker had 14, and Keyon
Walker had 10. With that
victory it put the Bulldogs in
3rd place in the district and if
they can win two of there last
three games it will give them a
playoff birth.
