Chiggerfest this weekend
You’ll need to get an early
start so you won’t miss out
on any of the fun events
planned throughout the
day at Delta County’s 16^
Annual Chiggerfest. The
first event will be on Friday
evening with a street dance
with the live performance by
Delta County Native Elvis
Impersonator Ralph Slough.
The dance will begin at 6 to
9 p.m.
You will need to wake
up early and begin the day
at the Cooper Fire Station
where the Lions Club will be
having their Annual Pancake
Breakfast, where they will be
serving from 7 to 10 a.m. If
you are interested in the 5K
Run you must sign up at the
First Methodist Church at
7:30 a.m. Vendors will open
at the Cooper Square starting
at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Opening ceremonies will
start at 9 a.m. at the north side
square on the main stage. The
live entertainment will begin
at 9:30 a.m. to 5P.m. on the
main stage. In addition, the
Shoe Box Float Contest will
start 9 a.m. at the gazebo. The
float will be designed into a
miniature float in a shoebox.
Judging will begin at 11 a.m.
The Delta County Civic
Center will be having the
Health Fair starting at 8 a.m.
to 5 p.m. In addition, there
will be arts and crafts at the
civic center until 5 p.m.
There will be a Kid’s Zone
on the west side square from
8 a.m. to 5p.m. It will include
large and small bounce
houses, large and small slides,
barrel train that will circle the
square in style.
The Bicycle Rodeo will
be at the northwest side of
the square starting off at 9
to 11 a.m. There will be a
limited number of free bike
helmets. At 10 a.m. there will
be a cake walk south side of
the square and the chalk art
will start 10:45 a.m. in front
of the Delta County Chamber
of Commerce office where
chalk will be provided for all
artists.
The Baby, Wee, Mini,
Little Miss, Junior Miss, and
Miss Chigger Pageant will
start at 2:30 p.m. by Miller’s
Drug Store on the southeast
corner of the square.
The Pet Parade will be at
3:30 p.m. in the mini park.
Feel free to dress up your
pet. The judging will begin at
4 p.m.
Come on down to Cooper’s
historic downtown square and
join in the fun and festivities.
You won’t want to miss the
fun, games, food, friends,
and lots to see and do!
Class of 1984 to meet
for Homecoming
The class of 1984 is
scheduling their 25th class
reunion for Friday, October
23rd. The events are
scheduled for a meet and greet
on Friday starting at 6:00pm
in the Cooper High School
cafeteria. Then gather for
the Homecoming game for
some Bulldog football and
Homecoming festivities.
On Saturday, October
24th families will gather at
Doctors Creek State Park
from 10:00am - 12:00pm at
the park area and then if you
didn’t get enough bonding or
if you couldn’t make one of
the previous events the class
members can join Kevin
Carter for a fish fry starting at
6:00pm.
Kevin will be camping at
Doctors Creek that weekend
and has agreed to cook fish if
everyone else could bring a
side dish.

Halloween events
at State Park
The Cooper Lake State Park/ South Sulphur Unit will be
having a two Halloween Events on October 31, 2009. For
the first event, there wifi be a kid’s pumpkin carving contest,
which wifi be open to the public. The group for the children
wifi be the ages of 5 to 7 and 8 to 12. You must bring your
carved pumpkins to Honey Creek Amphitheater at 3:00 p.m.
forjudging and prizes wifi given to the winner and runner up
in each age group.
The second event wifi be for campers only that decorate
their campsite in Halloween decorations. You will need to
enter your campsite at the office. The campsites wifi be judged
at 6:30 p.m. and ribbons wifi be given for creativity and for
over-all design.
Hobby
club to
hold bake
sale
The Enloe Hobby Club wifi
be having a bake sale in front
of the First National Bank in
Cooper on Friday, October
16^ starting at 10 a.m.
Homecoming next week
The annual Homecoming Parade wifi occur
on Tuesday, October 20^. The lineup begins
at 6:00 and the parade begins at 6:30. The
Grand Marshall for this year’s parade is Mr.
Jerry Holcomb. Immediately after the parade
there wifi be a pep rally at the football stadium
pending the weather. If we have bad weather
the pep rally wifi be moved to the gym.
This year’s Duchesses and escorts for the
parade and pep rally are: Freshman- Day lee
Phifer, escorted by Trevor Huie,
Sophomore- Taylor Ingram, escorted by JP
Marchand, Junior- Tiffany Roberts, escorted
by Zach Harrison.
Homecoming QueenNominees (all Seniors)
and their parade and pep rally escorts are:
Courtney Mathis, escorted by Holden Jenkins,
Lauren Bettes, escorted by Austin Darden,
Christian Szafran, escorted by Chris
Ballard, and Elizabeth Williams, escorted by
William Tubb.
Visit by the overnor
The Cooper Lions club was visited by District Governor Sandy Sandberg. Mr. Sandberg attended the Lions club meeting
Friday October 9th. The Lions also discussed the Pancake Breakfast they will be holding Saturday morning at Chiggerfest.
The Lions will be serving Pancakes from 7:00 am to 10:00 am . The Lions will also have a place for visitors to donate
used glasses and hearing aids.
