Shiloh opens their hearts under the open skies
By Cindy Roller
Editor
The last weekend of September
under perfect skies the community
of Shiloh took a step back in time
for the second annual Shiloh Gath-
erin’. Shannon Moreland returned to
Shiloh and delivered a message as
the saddlebag preachers of the past
once did in a pasture located be-
tween Commerce and Klondike. It
was three days live music, fun, fel-
lowship, chuck wagon meals, horse-
shoes, testimonies and much more.
The second annual event was
again held in a pasture on Frieda
Teel’s land, and this year it included
a Fun Run to show support for her
recent breast cancer diagnosis.
The event began on Thursday with
a free horse clinic, chuck wagon
meal and live music and continued
through Saturday with the Fun Run
(collecting donations for the Na-
tional Breast Cancer Foundation),
prayer time, and another stretch of
live music and chuck wagon meal.
“It was awesome, just awesome,”
said Teel, recuperating from her last
preventative chemotherapy treat-
ment and resting up for her upcom-
ing radiation.
Teel has been diagnosed with
stage 1 breast cancer, one of the most
deadly forms of cancer. She was told
by her doctors she will require five
more years of medication to insure
her health.
“That is 1,825 pills,” said Teel,
with a surprisingly positive attitude.
She said her haze of chemotherapy
lifted Friday evening of the Shiloh
Gatherin’ and she has been inspired
by the Lord’s good work. “I normal-
ly organize this event, but this year I
didn’t have to do anything. ... In fact
I even got a nap each day. One day
I woke up and there were bleach-
ers set up outside my house [for the
event], I don’t know how they got
there but the kindness of others is
very reaffirming.”
Teel said this event was created
to draw citizens that might not oth-
erwise attend church. They drew
a crowd of over 100 people each
night. The event operates strictly on
donations, and each year it has been
successful.
“We want people to feel comfort-
able with a family-like environ-
ment,” she added. “It is a chance to
be revived and renewed.”
Performing this year were several
talented bands including Branded as
well as local talents, David Veraska
and Jeff Gore plus various preach-
ers.
“We are looking forward to next
year,” said Teel. “It is a great feeling.
It softens your heart for the Lord.”
More photos and information on the
event can be found at Shiloh Gath-
erin’ on Facebook.
