Garden Club members take train ride
The McGregor Garden Club
decided to ride the Amtrak to
Cleburne and back to view the
landscaping at the Cleburne de-
pot last Wednesday. The Club is
in the process of applying for a
Texas Historical Marker for the
McGregor Santa Fe Depot which
is 110 years old this year.
Since the depot in McGregor
has been in continuous service
since it was built in 1904, the
Club felt that a marker would be
a great addition to the site. The
application will be presented to
the McLennan County Histori-
cal Commission then forwarded
to the State Historical Commis-
sion later in the Fall. Original
drawings and paperwork about
the station was found in the ar-
chives at the Temple Train Sta-
tion. Those materials became an
integral part of the application.
If the marker application is
approved by the State Historical
Commission the club will raise
funds to pay for the marker later
in the year. It will be placed next
to the Amtrak signage and mem-
bers of the Club will design the
flower bed that will surround the
marker.

Members of the McGregor
Police Department made a num-
ber of arrests last week including
several DWI’s and an arrest for
indecency with a child.
Investigator Joe Coy re-
ported that on May 14, officers
received information that a 1996
Alexis Sedan could be found
at the Shell Station located on
Highway 84.
Officers located the stolen
vehicle and returned it to its own-
er. Coy reported that inside the
vehicle officers found items used
to smoke methamphetamine. He
said the department is still devel-
oping information on the case.
The following day, on May
15, Child Protective Services
contacted the police department
in reference to inappropriate con-
ty Seawright, Eula McKowen-
Front Row - Emily Davidson,
Joyce Vahrenkamp, Monyene
Carnes and Anna Mae Rogers.
tact of a young teenage girl.
Following an investigation
and interview, officers arrested
a man and charged him with in-
decency with a child and placed
him into custody. INS also
placed a hold on the man.
On May 16, Detective Coy
drafted up a search warrant as
part of a continuing investigation
along with the Clifton Police De-
partment and the Bosque County
Sheriff’s office.
A search warrant was ex-
ecuted in Clifton and a man was
arrested an placed into custody.
The man was arrested at a local
business in McGregor. Detec-
tive Coy reported officers found
12 smoking pipes, scales, mari-
juana, a small bottle of hash oil
and several other items contain-
ing THC—the active ingredi-
ent in marijuana at the subject’s
residence. Coy believes some of
those items came from Colorado
where it is legal, but not in Texas.
On Saturday in a follow up
on the same case, a woman was
arrested for possession of hash
and marijuana. She was placed
into custody.
On May 18, a Corsicana
woman was arrested for driving
while intoxicated on Highway
84. A day earlier, a man was ar-
rested on Highway 84 for driving
while intoxicated. He was placed
in the McLennan County Jail.
Investigator Coy reported
that the department has several
vehicles that have recently been
acquired through arrests includ-
ing a 2004 Z71 Chevy Ava-
lanche. The department was just
awarded that vehicle after the
subject was caught with cocaine.
He expects the vehicle to be auc-
tioned off.
“Anyone who has any infor-
mation about any criminal activ-
ity, please call me at the police
department at 840-2855,” In-
vestigator Coy stated. “You can
ask for me, but you can remain
anonymous. We appreciate your
help.”
