The McGregor Lady Bull-
dogs basketball won their first
two district games against Troy
and Moody last week and will
try to their momentum going this
week.
McGregor was slated to
face Crawford Tuesday night
here starting at 5 p.m. The Lady
Bulldogs will travel to Clifton on
Friday in the final game before
the holidays. During the holi-
days, McGregor will compete in
the Rosebud-Lott Tournament on
Dec. 27-28 and will host Hamil-
ton on Jan 3.
Against Troy, the Lady Bull-
dogs trailed 16-10 in the first
quarter, pulled ahead by two 32-
30 at halftime, and were ahead
44-42 to start the final period.
Scoring for McGregor were
Tyra Lee, 15; Essance Porter, 12;
Kylie Smith, 10; Angela Rost, 8;
Allie Jacobs, 4; Jaycee Green,
Hope Lenamon, Heather Bess,
and Mary Graves, all with 2
points each. The girls connected
on 9 of 19 shots from the free
throw line.
“We got off to a slow start
and had trouble stopping #24—
Cavanaugh in the first half,”
Coach Kimberly Johnson stated.
“Cavanaugh scored 12 points
in the first quarter. We changed
our defense and outscored Troy
22-14 in the second quarter. It
came down to our defense and
full court pressure in the fourth
quarter. We also held Cavana-
ugh to just 2 points in the fourth
quarter.”
Coach Johnson reported
Troy returned all of their players
from last year and she knew it
would be a tough game. “It was
a big win for us.”
“We struggled against
Moody on Friday night,” the
coach said. “Our rotation was a
little off on defense and we had a
hard time taking care of the bas-
ketball. It is the best I’ve ever
seen a Moody team play and we
managed to squeak out a three-
point win. It is nice to be 2-0 in
district.”
McGregor dropped behind
the Lady Bearcats 12-9 in the
opening quarter before tying up
the game at 22-22 by halftime.
The Lady Bulldogs upped their
leading margin to 35-28 before
the start of the fourth period.
