• Did you know that our
Texas lawmakers are in the
process of trying to sell off
19 of our Texas highways?
One name that keeps pop-
ping up as a potential buyer
is Cintra. Does that name
sound familiar? Cintra was
one of the major players in
the TTC.
First of all, remember
that our tax money built
these roads. If they are
sold, they will be turned
into toll roads, and we’ll be
paying to drive on roads
that we have already paid
for. Speed limits will
range up to 85 mph, while
the speed limit on other
area roads you could take
will reportedly drop to 55.

Potholes haunt Iola
My letter is in regards
to the April 3 article
“County debates assisting
fledglings.“ First, let me
apologize for not being
available when Rosemary
(Examiner Editor Rose-
mary Smith) tried to con-
tact me in regards to the
article. The article stated
that “the issues the city
raises with the county are
minimal, and mostly con-
cern ongoing issues such
as overgrown grass on
county roads.“ The issue
of grass growing was just
one example of an ongoing
issue on only one street.
The main issue we have
in Iola is potholes. Just
wanted to clarify. These is-
sues are discussed at
monthly city council meet-
ings, and I encourage the
citizens of Iola to attend
these meetings and give
the council their input.
Thanks for covering the
very productive workshop.

City of Iola mayor
Bring developer
roads up to county stan-
dards
Thank you for your re-
cent article on Grimes
County roads. I hope you
will be able to devote
some time to the problem
of bringing developer
roads up to county stan-
dards, so that the county
can then assume its re-
sponsibility of providing
dependable roadways to
all county residents.
