Shiro Volunteer Fire Department and two local churches, as well as Friends of
Grimes County, are attempting to help a family that lost their rental home to a
fire Friday afternoon.
Fire,
continued from la
“Everything else is
gone. It’s really rough, be-
cause all we have is the
clothes on our back and the
few things the fire depart-
ment could get,” she said.
“All of my mom’s stuff is
gone and she passed away
so it’s irreplaceable, but
we’re alive. It’s a big bless-
ing that God watched over
us.”
Though the Red Cross
was contacted by Fire
Chief Shawn Schneider,
and was expected to arrive
that same evening, they
never showed, according to
Mrs. Ash. However, the or-
ganization is meeting with
the family Wednesday,
Sharon said.
“And we waited until
about 11:30 or midnight,”
she said. “Now they’re say-
ing we may not be able to
get help to cover the hotel
since the first three days
were already paid for by
my husband’s work.”
Red Cross was unable
to be reached for comment
at press time.
Mr. Ash is currently em-
ployed as a truck driver for
Third Day Ranch in Nava-
sota and Mrs. Ash is unem-
ployed, as she was laid off
from Packaging Express in
Houston last year.
Since the family does
not have renter’s insurance,
Sharon said the firefighters
are currently collecting
clothes for the family in
need. Items needed include
the following: Boys pants,
sizes 6-8; shirts 6/7 and
9/10; shoes 1 and 2.5;
ladies pants, sizes 3-4 and
20, shirts size small and
extra large, and shoes 8.5
and 9 wide; and men’s
pants size 36-38, shirts size
large, and shoes size 11
wide.
“They have nothing,
and any help would be ap-
preciated,” said the volun-
teer firefighter who may be
reached at 832-492-6625.
Those who wish to do-
nate in the Navasota area
may contact Examiner Ed-
itor and Friends of Grimes
County member Rosemary
