The Van Zandt County Library summer reading
program is winding down the 2013 season. Only
two performances remain. Last Friday, 79 kids
were singing, dancing and being entertained by
Mike Schneider and his pint-sized polka band.
Don’t forget the grand prize drawing will be
held on Friday, July 26, with the final perfor-
mance of summer reading.
Dr. Herb Marlow will entertain library patrons
and guests at a book signing and storytelling
event, sponsored by the Friends of the Library
on Aug. 2, at 10 a.m. in the Buchanan Room of
the library.
If you have book donations for the upcoming
book sale, please drop them off at the library.
For those of you who failed to mark your cal-
endar after reading “Library Footnoteslast
week, those dates are Aug. 16, 17 and 18.
Memorial donations were received from John

Sharon Ward is the new owner of the Merle
Norman Cosmetic Studio in Canton, having
just finished extensive training at our home
office in Los Angeles. Her daughter, Angie,
will be assisting her, and they look forward

Taylor Claire Austin and Cole Matthew Kiefer were
united in marriage on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at The
Tribute Golf Resort in The Colony. The ceremony was
officiated by minister Marty Younkin. The bride’s parents
hosted a buffet dinner and reception in The Tribute
Ballroom following the outside ceremony. On the eve of
the wedding the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner
at Angelina’s Mexican Restaurant in The Colony.
The bride is the daughter of Robin and David Berry of
Wills Point, and Lonnie and Amy Austin of Sulphur
Springs. She is the granddaughter of Raymond and Gloria
Scott, Joan Berry, Faye Alston and Boyd and Janet Austin,
all of Wills Point. The groom is the son of Kelly and Tim
Arion of Van Alstyne and Dan and Lilia Kiefer of Rowlett.
He is the grandson of Bob Kiefer of Colleyville, Joanne
Kiefer of Garland and Rosalie Arion of Wylie.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her
father, the bride wore a strapless Maggie Sottero ivory
ball gown trimmed with ruffles floating throughout the
gathered tulle skirt, adorned with glimpses of embellished
lace. The gown featured a sweetheart neckline,
asymmetrical bodice and handmade flowers with
Swarovski crystals. It finished with a corset closure and
was complemented by a matching fingertip veil. The bride
carried a hand-tied bouquet of calla lilies and hydrangeas.
Kelsey Brewer of Plano served as maid of honor.
Bridesmaids included Amy Joubert of Atlanta, Ga., Lori
Arion of Van Alstyne, sister of the groom, Narine Kazarova
of Dallas, Danielle Cain of Flower Mound and Kelsey
Schendt of San Antonio. The maid of honor and
bridesmaids wore cocktail-length gowns in aubergine
luxe taffeta. Each carried a hand-tied bouquet of purple
roses, lavender and hydrangeas.
Serving as best men were Clay Penland of McKinney
and Caleb Kiefer of Rowlett, brother of the groom.
Groomsmen included Justin Adams of Frisco, Matt Lucas
of Houston, Jordan Blessing of Dallas, and Zach Beaver
of Seattle, Wash. Serving as ushers were Ryan Duke, Jared
Vaughn and Kyle Lail.
The bride is a 2008 graduate of Wills Point High School.
She is currently pursuing a masters degree in accounting
at The University of North Texas and will graduate in May
2014. The groom is a 2008 graduate of The University of
North Texas. He is employed as a physics teacher and
coach at McKinney Boyd High School.
Following a honeymoon to Punta Cana, Dominican
Republic, the couple will reside in Denton.

The American Red Cross, in conjuction with Eagle
Scout candidate Matthew Goode, will be hosting
a blood drive at First United Methodist Church,
600 South Buffalo Street in Canton on Saturday,
Aug. 3, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Goode will also be
accepting food donations for Manna food bank.
