ALLEN AMERICANS
Americans alum Benn
makes his NHL debut

In addition to attempting to win a CHL
Championship, the Allen Americans have
been all about player advancement the past
three seasons.
That achievement has been validated
with numerous AHL call-ups as well as their
selection as the Lake Erie Monsters AHL Af-
filiate. But Allen made another break-
through last Tuesday when former
defenseman Jordie Benn made his NHL
debut with the Dallas Stars against the De-
troit Red Wings.
‘We are very proud of Jordie and his ac-
complishments,” said Dwight Mullins, Amer-
icans head coach and general manager.
“Jordie has made the most of his opportuni-
ties and is being rewarded for it.”
Benn was the first Allen alumni to reach
the NHL.
Benn played with the Americans during
their inaugural season in 2009-10, scoring 18
points (nine goals and nine assists) along the
way. Benn displayed his scoring prowess in
his NHL debut as he assisted on the Stars
first goal of the night, which was notched by
Loui Eriksson. Benn logged 16:31 of ice time
over 22 shifts in the Stars’ 5-4 loss to the Red
Wings.
“I had a few butterflies [last Tuesday
night],” Benn said. “The system is the same
thing we are playing in Austin, which made
it easier to step right in.”
Berube, Cousineau called up to AHL
While Benn made the jump from the
Texas Stars to the NHL, Americans defense-
man Mike Berube is moving closer to that di-
rection as he has been called-up by Texas.
Berube played in 29 games for Allen this
season, scoring nine points with a +11.
Berube wasn’t the only Allen player
called-up to the AHL in the last week though
as goaltender Marco Cousineau moved to the
Syracuse Crunch (an affiliate of the Anaheim
Ducks). Cousineau has been stellar for the
Americans since being reassigned by the
Ducks, amassing an 11-2-3 record with a
2.70 GAA.
Allen currently has four players in the
AHL. In addition to Berube and Cousineau,
Dylan King and James Reid are with Lake
Erie.
Wheeling and Dealing
Allen’s player personnel department has
stayed busy the past week.
Lachlan Macintosh, who was acquired
from the Missouri Mavericks last month, has
retired. Macintosh played in 14 games this
season, netting 4 points. The Americans also
waived defenseman Michael Jordan.
With those losses in mind, Allen came to
terms with Jeff Martens and Aaron McGill.
Martens, who played with the CHL
Champion Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs last
season, played in 13 games with the Arizona
Sundogs this year, scoring one goal and tal-
lying two assists. McGill recently played for
the Augusta River Hawks of the Southern
Professional Hockey League.
Langdon named all-star
The Americans’ moves didn’t stop with
just the team though as Allen added defense-
man Scott Langdon to the roster for the 2012
CHL All-Star Game, which was played

Wednesday night (results not available at
press time).
Langdon replaced King.
“It’s a great honor to be selected,” Lang-
don said. “This is my first professional all-
star game. I was involved in one back in
juniors, but that was several years ago.”
Langdon was one of five Americans sched-
uled to take part in the game at Tim’s Toyota
Center in Prescott Valley, Ariz., as teammate
Bruce Graham (who served as an alternate
captain) and Mullins, Allen trainer Jason
Wallace and broadcaster Tommy Daniels
made the cut. Cousineau was on the roster
before his AHL call-up.
Win, Lose or Draw
Before the all-star game, the Americans
had three more contests against the Laredo
Bucks, marking the third, fourth and fifth
straight times the teams played.
Allen was nearly identical with Laredo
during that stretch, posting a 1-1-1 record
with a cumulative score of 7-7.
The series started Friday with a 3-2 over-
time loss in which Allen got out to a 2-0 lead
off goals from Jarret Lukin and Colton Yel-
low Horn. The goal was notable for Lukin as
it was his 14th of the season, 200th point of
his professional career and 100th point with
Allen. Laredo was unfazed though as it
scored three unanswered goals, including the
game winner by Rusty Masters.
The teams shifted to the Laredo Energy
Arena Satin-day night and Allen posted a 4-
2 victory.
Jim McKenzie lit the lamp twice for the
Americans, but it was Graham who notched
the game winner on his 17th goal of the sea-
son. Rejean Beauchemin (4-3-4) got the win
between the pipes. Beauchemin wouldn’t be
as fortunate the next afternoon as the Amer-
icans dropped a 2-1 decision to the Bucks in
a game that featured a plethora of fights over
the final minute.
Allen went 2-1-2 in its five-game series
against Laredo.
After the all-star break, the Americans
(now second in the Berry Conference at 18-7-
7 with 43 points) are back on the road. Allen
travels to face the Missouri Mavericks on
Friday and Tulsa Oilers on Saturday. The
Americans return to the Allen Event Center
Monday for a 1:05 p.m. puck drop against the
Oilers.

A knee injury left Ann Lary a virtual recluse. “I couldn’t do any of the things I used
to do,” she says. After two unsuccessful arthroscopic surgeries, Ann was referred
to Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano where she underwent a knee
replacement. Ann is now back to scrapbooking and doing everything else she
enjoyed before the knee injury. “It’s a miracle to get my life back.”
