Ethan Couch, 16, could
face 20 years imprisonment
for his alleged role in a multi-
vehicle crash that killed four
and injured others June 15
on the 1500 block of Burle-
son-Retta Road.
But, for now, he’s been re-
leased into the custody of his

State Rep. Rob Orr, R-
Burleson, will not seek re-
election to a sixth term in
the Texas Legislature, an-
nouncing Sept. 10 a decision
to retire from public service
when his House term ends
in December 2014.
“It is with mixed feelings
that I make this announce-
ment. It has been an honor
representing the residents of
Johnson and Bosque eoun-
Juvenile Justice Center,
about three months after the
crash, for a detention hear-
ing with his attorneys. The
Tarrant County district at-
torney is asking a grand jury
to support charges of four
counts of intoxication man-
slaughter and two counts of
intoxication assault.
“We plan to seek a deter-
minate sentence for the teen
and, if the grand jury ap-
proves our request, the teen
could face up to 20 years
ties,” Orr said. “The respect
and support that has been
shown to me over these
many years is something I
treasure.”
The favor he earned with
constituents seemed to grow
with each term he served. He
won election to his first term
in the House with 70 per-
cent of the vote in the 2004
general election. Orr did not
draw a GOP opponent in
three of five GOP primary
elections. He earned re-elec-
tion to his seat with 62.8 and
behind bars, if convicted,”
said Tarrant County Assis-
tant District Attorney Riley
Shaw.
Couch was released to his
parents with a court-ordered
ankle monitor.
The district attorney’s of-
fice has declined to make
further comments.
A trial date would be set
sometime after a grand jury
rules enough evidence ex-
ists to proceed with formal
charges.
70.5 percent of the vote, re-
spectively, in the 2006 and
2008 general elections. He
easily overcame a primary
challenge in 2010 and won
the general election by his
largest margin, 75.7 percent.
He was unopposed in both
the party primary election
and the general election in
2012 for his fifth term in of-
fice.
“During my first cam-
paign, I promised the voters
I would not be a career poli-
tician,” Orr said. “I believe it

The Crowley ISD school
board will be asked at the
Sept. 26 board meeting to
further examine the costs as-
sociated with adding video
screens to new scoreboards
at the two high school foot-
ball stadiums.
The school board recently
voted 6-1 in support of an
$800,000 package to replace
every athletic scoreboard
at both of the district’s high
schools.
“A lot of our scoreboards
have met their shelf-lives and
with a lot of other districts
upgrading their scoreboards,
we want to be in that com-
parison group of other school
districts that are upgrading
their facilities,” CISD Ath-
letic Director Charles Lincoln
said.
By next fall, the district
hopes eight scoreboards at
the football, baseball and
softball fields and basketball
gymnasiums at Crowley High
School and North Crowley
High School will be opera-
tional, as well as two score-
boards on auxiliary fields —
one at each campus.
Initially, the school board
approved having the score-
boards at the two football
stadiums be high-resolution
(not HD) video screens (is’6
x i8’4), with the cameras
and other equipment needed
to make them operational

It is customary for the
Crowley Fire Department to
participate yearly in a na-
tional fundraiser to generate
money for cancer.
This year, the fire depart-
ment decided to bring it a
little closer to home.
“We like doing the fund-
raisers and we like support-
ing the causes, but it puts
it in perspective when it’s
something local,” said Crow-
ley Fire Lt. Chris Young, who
is also the president of the
Crowley Professional Fire-
fighters Association. “We can
see a difference. We can actu-
ally see what we are doing is
helping someone we know.”
This year, Young and the
CPFA selected Beth Garner, a
Crowley High School gradu-
ate who was diagnosed with
breast cancer in June.
