varsity district tournament
will be held in Holland with
teams from Holland Buck-
holts Jarrcll Milano and
Salado competing in boys and
girls divisions.
Thursday February 11
first round action starts be-
tween Duckholts and Jarrcll
The girls play at 1 p.m. and
the boys at 2:30 p.m.
Milano and Salado clash
next with the girls game at 10
a m and the boys game at
11 30 a m. Thursday.
Holland drew a bye in first
round competition.
In second round play the
Milano-Salado winner plays
Holland at 5:30 p.m. for the
girls and 7 p.m. for the boys.
The winner of this game
meets the winner of the
Buckholts-Jarrcll game for
the championship. The girls
championship game is 5:30
p.m Saturday and the boys
championship game is 7 p.m.
Saturday.
Girls consolation is at 2:30
p.m. Saturday. The boys play
for consolation at 4 p.m.
Saturday.
Weather Forces Wait For Showdown
Bad weather meant post-
ponement of a basketball
showdown between the Hol-
land Hornets and Milano
Eagles set for last Friday.
The game will be made up
on Tuesday February 16
according to Hornet Coach
Jack Parker.
Winning the first half of
district play the Hornets
hope to get by Milano's
challenge in the second half
and thereby take the district
title straight out with no need
for n playoff.
Should Milano beat Hol-
land the Eagles would win
the second half provided
they do not run into trouble
with anyone else in the
district.
In action last Tuesday
February 2 the Hornets
Holland Girls Defeat Jarrell 43-39
With 16 points contributed
by Alana Gaines the Holland
Horncttes were able to up
their district mark to 3-3 by
defeating Jarrcll last week
43-39.
The win avenged an earli-
er 54-38 loss at the hands of
Jarrcll.
The girls finished the first
half of district play with a 1-3
mark. The win over Jarrell
made them 2-0 in the second
half of play making it still
possible for them to vie for
the district title.
Scoring for Holland were
Kelly Bayless 0 JoAnna Va-
den 8 Elizabeth Beaver 8 and
Shcryl Marwitz 3.
JoAnna Vadqn had 16
rebounds and Alana Gaines 8
steals to lead the defensive
effort. Sheryl Marwitz took 7
steals.
The girls season win-loss
record stood at 12-12 as of
press time Tuesday.
In Junior varsity play
Holland was edged by Jarrcll
33-26.
Elizabeth Smith led Hol
land scoring with 9 points.
Lisa Tarpley scored 8 Brcn-
da Warren 7 and Laurie
Starke 2.
The varsity girls play
Salado this Friday and Mi-
lano next Tuesday to con-
clude district action.

win-loss record. Junior varsity action in the
Kevin Bcnncr exploded for
30 points to lead the Hornets
in that contest hitting a
remarkable 15 of 20 attempt-
ed shots from the field for a
75 percent completion rate.
The team overall averaged 41
percent from the field.
Dan Kallus put in a strong
defensive effort for Holland
Nabbing 14 rebounds and
taking 5 steals.
Jon Marc Goodnight and
James Hart each scored 10
points for the Hornets. Others
scoring were Dan Kallus 8
Roy JOhnson 6 Ricky Ben-
night 4 Darren Stroud 4
Gregg Volncy 2 and Kenneth
Smith 2.
The win gave Holland 6
wins against no losses in
district play to take against
the Salado Eagles in what
would have been the final
game of the regular season
this Friday evening in Hol-
land. The boys Junior varsity
contest will begin at 5:30 p.m.
this Friday and will be
followed by the girls varsity
Milano contest next Tuesday
will also get underway at 5:30
p.m in Milano.

Scott & White Hospital after
having surgery on her arm
which had been broken in a
fall she suffered about two
weeks ago.
