“Another figure that as a
citizen of Hardin County I am
not proud of, but I think shows
the get tough policy of our
office is that 17 Defendants
have been sent to the Texas
Department of Corrections
(Penitentiary) for a total of 164
years in the first half of 1961
and this represents a 600%
increase over the 8 Defendants
sent to the pen for 28 years in
the first half of 1960.
“These figures indicate that
our Justice system in Hardin
County is getting tougher,
paying for itself and we hope
detering others from committ-
ing serious crime in our com-
munity. We do not feel we
have reached our goal or even
turned the tide, but I do feel if
everyone involved continues to
do the excellent work that has
started that we can and will
achieve our goals of making
crime a losing business in
Hardin County.
“I want to commend all the
law enforcement agencies, the
Judge and all others. Without
their help and cooperation my
job would be impossible,”
Horka concluded.
