The damp, overcast weather
of April 17 did nothing to
hinder the excitement generat-
ed at t,he Kountze Fairgrounds
for the eighth annual Hardin
Rites Are Held For
Ruth Mary Woolley
Ruth Mary Woolley, 81, a
longtime resident of Silsbee,
died April 29 at St. Elizabeth
Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral services were held at
10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s
Catholic Church with burial in
Knupple Cemetery. Rev. Ron-
ald Bollich officiated. A rosary
was recited at 7 p.m. Friday at
Farmer Funeral Home.
A native of New York, N.Y.,
she had lived in Silsbee since
1922. She was a member of the
Altar Society of St. Mark’s
Catholic Church. She and her
late husband were charter
members of the American
Legion.
Survivors include three
daughters, Ruth Allison of
Houston and Margaret Camp-
bell and Doris Woolley, both of
Silsbee; one son, Edward Paul
Woolley Jr. of Cleburne.
Pallbearers were: Jesse Rod-
riguez, Wladyslaw Stark, Ray
Parr, Tony Rodriguez, Larry
Biggs, Paul Smith and Gail
Standly.
Services Held For
Luby Ray Isaacks
Luby Ray Isaacks, 79, of
Silsbee, died Friday at his
home after an illness.
Funeral services were held at 2
p.m. Saturday at Central Bap-
tist Church in Evadale with
burial in Antioch Cemetery in
Buna. Rev. Don Caldwell of-
ficiated.
A native of Polk County, he
was a retired lumber grader
with Kirby Industries.
Survivors include his wife,
Lelia Broussard Isaacks of
Evadale; three daughters, Vir-
ty Fay Munnerlyn of Vidor,
Audry Mae Whitmore of Eva-
dale and Beritia Jean Day of
DeRidder, La.; a son, Robert
Earl Isaacks of Buna; two
stepdaughters, May Ella Hol-
land and Norma Ann Bossier,
both of Port Neches; a stepson,
Clifford Boutin of Buna.

County Broiler Show. This
show is the climax to eight
weeks of hard work put into
raising the broilers for show.
4-H’ers that participate in this
project gain a sense of responsi-
bility through their work with
the birds.
The day of the show found
4-H’ers arriving at 8 a.m. to
have their birds weighed and
penned. Each entry, consisting
of three birds, was donated
after the show to be used for
the Broiler Bar-B-Cue on May
15.
The judging by T. V. Smith
of Beaumont began at 9:15 a.m.

George W. Eddings
George W. Eddings, 82, of
Silsbee died Monday at Baptist
Hospital.
Graveside services were to
be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at
Cunningham Cemetery under
the direction of Farmer Funeral
Home. Rev. Joe Knighten
officiated.
A native and lifetime resi-
dent of Silsbee, he was a
retired custodian of Silsbee
Independent School District.
Survivors include his wife,
Emma Eddings of Silsbee, two
sons, George E. Eddings Jr. of
Silsbee and Pete Eddings of
Fred; a daughter, Bonnie Ruth-
ledge of Beaumont; three
brothers, Escar Eddings and
Wilburn Eddings, both of Sils-
bee and Woody Eddings of
Fred.
Rites Are Held For
lone Swearingen
Funeral services for Bell lone
Swearingen, 60, of Silsbee
were held at 2 p.m. Monday at
Farmer Funeral Chapel with
burial in Resthaven Cemetery.
She died Saturday at Bur-
Mont Nursing Home.
She was a native of Kirby-
ville.
Survivors include a brother,
R.V. Swearingen of Beaumont;
and five sisters, Essie Coleman,
Helen Dailey, Laura Alice
Swearingen, and Mattie La-
fose, all of Silsbee, and Alzie
Swearingen of Beaumont.
Rev. R. E. Barclay and Dr.
B. Carter Elmore officiated.

Being Set Up For
Leslie McNeely
Containers are being set up
for donations to help with
medical and other expenses for
Leslie McNeely, of Zavalla.
Due to a train and log truck
accident on Feb. 22. He is
unable to work and is under a
doctor’s care.
Benefit jars are being set up
at Citizens Bank in Woodville
and Harold Davis Grocery in
Warren. Friends and other
persons who are unable to go
by one of these places but want

Leslie is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Hubert McNeely of War-
ren.
Evadale Bands To
Present Concerts
A Spring Concert will be
presented by five Evadale
School District Bands on Mon-
day, May 10, at 7 p.m. in the
E.C. Nash Auditorium in Eva-
dale.
The youngest band to play
will be the fourth grade Ton-
ette and Rhythm Band and each
grade will perform up to the
High School Concert Band.
An Individual Achievement
trophy will be awarded to one
student from each group.
In other Evadale band news,
last Tuesday the All-District
Concert in Evadale recognized
eight students from the EISD.

Just when a final decision was
to be announced, six pens of
broilers were pulled out for a
final inspection. The air was
tense as T. V. went back and
fourth between the six pens
trying to find small differences
in the quality of birds.
Finally, a decision was madel
When all the feathers had
settled Windi Phelps of the
Sour Lake 4-H had taken first
place. She was followed by Kim
Condon of Lumberton 4-H,
Mike Phelps of Sour Lake 4-H,
Howard Langston of Kountze
4-H, and Greg Withers of
Lumberton in second through
fifth places respectively.
Rites Are Held For
Sam Jeter, 85
. Funeral services for Sam
Jeter, 85, of Silsbee were held
at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First
Baptist Church with burial in
Kirby Cemetery. Rev. S. Book-
er officiated.
He died Monday at Doctors
Hospital.
A native of Jasper, he lived
in Silsbee 27 years and was a
retired sawmill worker with
Kirby Lumber Co.
Survivors include his wife,
Mae V. Jeter of Silsbee; and
three sisters, Mary Clemmons
of Clearmont, Fla, Celia Mae
Williams of Los Angeles, Calif.,
and Jewel McCartney of Sils-
bee.
