Copy of Letter
From Marek Bros.
The Editor of this paper
received a copy of a letter
which was sent to .Senators
John Tower and Ralph Yar-
borough and Representatives
Bob Poage and Jake Pickle
commenting on the aid to
small farmers from the Marek
Bros in this community.
The letter read as follows:
"Dear Public Servant
"Recent "articles describing
the administration's proposal
for small farmers have curled
our hair. These articles imply
that the government would
buy up farm land and resell
to small farmers at a reduced
rate; offer long term notes
interest free; lease land from
"otii;ed farmers and release to
small farmers; buy small far-
mers products at higher prices
and turn them over to schools
and welfare; and so on. They
say this would create hundreds
of millions of new rural in-
come. "How asinine how ridicul-
ous how socialistic can our
government get? What is of-
fered above that would create
hunderds of millions IS NOT
FOR FREE! We are strictly
against this method of help-
ing small farmers. If tho gov-
ernment wants to help small
farmers our suggestion is to
help ALL farmers. Boost farm
income to parity ! Cut down on
high interest rates. Stop infla-
tionatory prices on landl Cut
down on the tremendous prices
farmers have to pay for farm
machinery and parts ! Ease the
pressure on labor's minimum
wages! Allow more farm la-
borer's to be available (exam
ple : Braccero Program) ! Put
a curb and check on welfare
programs !
''Do these things and a few
more and farm youngsters
could afford to become farm
ers; small farmers could af-
ford to expand; larger farm
ers could maintain their abili
ty to produce; and then all
farmers could bo counted' on
to continue to these United
States of America their com-
modities in abundance second
to no nation!
"Respectfully Yours
"Marek Bros.
