Good Samaritans
Thrift Shop Sale
The Rains County Good
Samaritans Thrift Shop will have
a sale in its building behind the
public library on Hwy. 69N on
Saturdays, September 22 and 29,
from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Funds from the sale go to buy
food for the needy and operate the
center. The sale includes clothes
for all ages and sizes, household
items and knick-knacks. There is
new stock every week.
Friends of the
Library Book Swap
“Snack and Swap Books” with
the Friends of the Library on
Thursday, September 20, at 4:00
p.m. Clean out your bookshelves
and bring in new or gently-used
books to exchange for others dur-
ing the annual membership meet-
ing at the Rains County Public
Library. Refreshments and treats
will be provided. In the Meadows
Cultural Center, view “Celebrat-
ing Color and Composition,” an
exhibit which includes wheel-
thrown and hand-built ceram-
ics, fused glass, recycled art and
acrylic and watercolor paintings.

Recruitment Night
All girls in grades K through
6th and their families are wel-
come to come and learn about Girl
Scouting on Rains ISD Recruit-
ment Night, September 18, at the
elementary school cafeteria from
6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Membership
in Girl Scouts is $12.00 for both
girls and adult volunteers annu-
ally. Troop leaders are needed for
this community.

The Keep Point Beautiful
committee rescheduled its meet-
ing for Thursday, September 20,
at 6:30 p.m. at the Point Commu-
nity Center. The Point Postmas-
ter, Lonnie Mooring, is the guest
speaker. An Adopt-A-Highway
cleanup is scheduled for Satur-
day, September 22, at 9:00 a.m.

The Rains High School Home-
coming Parade, featuring floats
from every class competing for
“Best Float,” the Wildcat Band,
cheerleaders and, of course, the
fighting Wildcat football teams,
will be held Monday, September
24, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Alba Country Fair
September 27-29
The 2012 Alba Country Fair
on the Square is set for Septem-
ber 27, 28 and 29 with karaoke,
gospel singing, quilt show, car
show, antique tractor show, a
parade, fish fry and street dance.

Homecoming Stew
Supper Sept. 28
The Rains Alumni Assoc, will
hold a stew supper from 5:30
to 7:30 p.m. before the Wildcat
Homecoming game on Septem-
ber 28. The menu includes beef
stew, chicken stew, combread,
dessert and drink. The cost is
your donation that benefits the
Senior Scholarship Fund. Come
on out and enjoy a great dinner,
watch the Homecoming Queen
crowning and a rousing game of
Wildcat football.

To Meet on 28th
The Republican Women of
Rains County (RWRC) will
meet on Friday, September 28,
at 11:30 a.m. at the Rains Coun-
ty Public Library to introduce
newly elected committee rep-
resentatives of US Senate Dis-
trict 2. Attending will be Nathan
Derr, committeeman from D2 to
the State Republican Executive
Committee; Melanie Grammar,
TFRW Senate District 2 Direc-
tor; and Barbara Caffrey, TFRW
Senate District 1 Director. Eddie
Northcutt, candidate for District
2 Judge, will be there as well as
newly elected county chairman
of the Republican Party of Rains
County, Sue Gowin. RWRC
members should bring items for
the troops. The public is invited.
Point’s Three
Creeks Ranch to
Hold Benefit
The Three Creeks Ranch,
located on 438 RCR 4530 in
Point, will host a Blazing Man
festival and concert from Fri.,
Sept. 28-Sun., Sept. 30, to ben-
efit the Point VFD and Locks
of Love. Admission for all
three days is $20 plus 2 cans of

Woosley Cemetery
Annual Meeting
Make plans to attend the
annual meeting of the Woosley
Cemetery Assoc, on September
29 at 1:00 p.m. at the Woosley
Church parsonage. Bring ham-
mers, hoes, rakes, shovels and
gloves for a cemetery work day
to begin at 10:00 a.m. Bring
a covered dish for lunch. The
parsonage will be open at 10:00
a.m. to drop off covered dishes.

a fish fry on September 29 at the Rocky Point Community Center on

invited to drop by during the afternoon for visits and story-tellings.

The city of Point received
$5,380.42 for the month of Sep-
tember compared to $5,529.79
for the same reporting period
last year. YTD the city has
received $52,524.91 compared
to $48,549.80 YTD last year, an
increase of 8.18 percent.
In East Tawakoni, the city
received $4,317.91, a loss of
5.74 percent over the $4,581.20
received in September 2011.
YTD the city has received
$48,843.07, down from last
year’s $62,877.43.
Combs reported that $366.3M
was returned to Texas cities and
$37.8M was returned to Texas
counties for September.
Sales tax on purchases in the
month of July were submitted to
the state in August and returned
to local governments in Septem-
ber.
Overall, surrounding coun-
ties and cities showed increases
in sales tax refunds YTD with
the exceptions of Hawkins and
Yantis in Wood County and Ney-
landville and Hawk Cove in Hunt
County.
Sharp increases YTD were
seen in Van and Edgewood in
Van Zandt County and Como in
Hopkins County.
