TIDE ARCHER COUNTY NEWS-THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 1995-PAGE THREE
LETTER TO
EDITOR
Dear Mike and the "Positive People"
of Archer County:
As I watched, participated and cele-
brated with the Windthorst Fans this
past weekend, I formulated the idea to
write and comment about the young
people in my community and Archer
County.
Comments in the paper and by the
negative people this past summer
painted a different picture of the
young spirit that is alive and flourish-
ing in our youth. I would like to
congratulate all the young people in
our county who choose to participate
and represent their schools in a multi-
tude of activities.
I have watched all of these young
people develop their respective skills
over the past sixteen years. The pride
I feel is unbelievable.
The Trojanettes are striving to ac-
complish a record of four straight
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. I have
worked with their coach, Diane
Conrady, and feel a special closeness
to her teams. They are ALWAYS
champions on and off the court.
The Trojans proved the experts
wrong and won DISTRICT for the
first time in thirteen years. Their
coaches should be congratulated and
praised for their hard work and extra
dedication. Many fans play Saturday
morning quarterback, myself in-
cluded, but Coach Bill Green's funda-
mentally strong team has not given up
a loss at home in two years.
Holliday Lady Eagles Coach Diane
DeArmond and her team should be
proud of their record. Many of the
players on this team worked with
players on the Trojanette Team in the
off season with Red River Volleyball.
A closeness is developing in this
county that we can be proud of instead
of always criticizing.
Several weeks ago the Holliday
Eagles displayed their undying belief
and defeated Quannah. My son has
grown up in healthy competition with
the young men his age but they all call
each other to continue to wish each
other GOOD LUCK.
My son also played a summer league
team with CROSS COUNTRY
STATE CHAMPION Daniel Willis.
He should be heralded for his hard
effort in this very grueling sport.
The Holliday Band has advanced to
STATE and the list goes on ... my
point being that we have some great
young people who have a support
system around them to accomplish
great things. This does not occur by
CHANCE.
We all supported the Archer Wild-
cats last year and celebrated their
success. Now let us all choose a team
or individual and cheer them on to
victory.
I am a drug and alcohol Counselor
and the people that I work with over a
twenty one county area are all from the
State Prison System or in the Juvenile
Detention Center in Wichita Falls. So
many of them did not grow up with the
same advantages and support systems
that our young people have in Archer
County. As I satin church today, I saw

With Thanksgiving only a week
away and the cupboards at the Archer
City Food Bank nearing total deple-
tion, it is time for the annual Food
Drive that will replenish the stock of
food on hand. The food is used to
supplement the needs of families and
individuals in the area that might oth-
erwise go hungry or have a deficient
diet. The Archer Food Bank is oper-
abed by the Archer City Ministerial
Alliance.
Throughout the week of November
13-17, Cub Scout groups will be hang-
ing plastic bags on the front doors of
every house in the city, complete with
instructions, which are very simple -
just place non-perishable food in the
bags and place them on the front porch
of the residence by 10:00 on the morn-
ing of Saturday, November 18. Boy
Scouts of Troop 100 and Troop 126
will pick up the food and deliver it to
the Food Bank, where it will be sorted,
stored until'needed, and then distrib-
uted to needy families.
Last year the food drive collected
over 3,000 pounds of food, but almost
all of the supplies have been handed
out. Donated items should include
just about any canned staples such as
vegetables, meats, soups, stews, and
fruits, or boxed items with a long shelf
life. Please avoid glass containers and
do not donate any fresh produce. For
more information, contact Georgia
Owen, of the Archer City Food Bank,
Or Bill Crowley, Scoutmaster of BSA
Troop 100.
