PAGE FOUR-THE ARCHER COUNTY MEWS-THCRSDAY• NOVEMBER
whenever the barrometric pressure
near the center of the arctic high is
great enough (about 30,60"), virtually
nothing will stop the cold air from
moving south!
The changes we saw Friday evening
were impressive! After warm south-
west winds and temperatures in the
80's, the wind suddenly shifted to the
north and gusted to near 60 mph in
some areas, resulting in considerable
blowing dust and even light damage in
spots. The temperature dropped about
25 degrees in 30 minutes, and contin-
ued to fall steadily through the eve^
ning with wind chills in the single
digits during the second half of those
high school football games. But, just
as quick as the cold air moved in, it
moved out; temperatures were al-
ready back into the 70's by Sunday.
The good news about that front was
that it brought the first official wide-
spread freeze to Texoma. I’m already
noticing grass browning up and even
the pollen count has decreased by 25 %
since the northern. The bad news is, it
didn't bring any moisture!

So many Americans have forgotten
the real menaing of Thankgiving.
To so many of us, it’s just a day off
from work to enjoy gobbling up
turkey, discussing w'ho wants what
for Christmas, and watching ‘the
game’ on TV. Land of Legends, Inc.

Last Friday's cold front was about as
classic as a blue norther as you can
get! We saw temperature drops of 50
to 55 degrees within a 24 -hour period.
. Such cold fronts aren't too uncom-
mon around here, as cold air masses
often crash down the east slopes of the
rockies like a brick wall into Texas.
The weight of the cold air is such that
it hugs the ground, and often spills to-
wards lower elevations despite what
the upper winds are. There is arule of
thumb when forecasting these fronts:
