According to the May cotton
report released by the Texas
Crop and Livestock Reporting
Service Texas has regained her
position as the leading producer
of "King Cotton" in spite of the
second coasecutive year of re
duced production.
Texas cotton producers were
able to win the top spot back
from California in 1975 with a
total upland cotton crop of 2.38
million bales. However the crop
was some 80000 bales below the
1974 total and was the smallest
crop on record since 1946 when-'
production was almost 1.67 mil-
lion White reported.
Cotton planting dates have
been set around the state as part
f the control program of the
Texas Pink Bollworm Act ad-
ministered by the Texas De
partment of Agriculture. The
program includes planting and
plow-ujr dates determined to be
tho most beneficial in fighting
ho damaging insect.
