THAT

Kindergarten kids learn
fast.
The following yarn didn’t
happen at the local kindergar-
ten gathering, but it hasn’t
too far from here.
On the first day of classes
the teacher was telling the
students the necessities of
school and a few odds and ends
that every new student should
know, and finally came to the
part about the bathroom.
‘If any of you need to go to
the bathroom,’ she explained,
‘just hold up two fingers.’
After a moment’s hesita-
tion, or thought* a little girl
asked;
‘How in the world is that
going to help?’
Heard secondhand Tuesday
that plans are in the making for
a new city hall and fire station
for Howe. Couldn’t find out
any facts on the proposed plans
except that city officials met
Monday riight in called ses-
sion.
In an effort to keep tax-
payers informed of the pro-
ceedings of their local govern-
ments, we try to attend all
regular meetings of the agen-
cies and have asked to be
notified of called meetings,
but somehow we’re usually
overlooked.
Sure hate to miss it.
Firemen Monday night
made arrangements for this
year’s annual barbecue — to
be held Saturday night, Oct. 4,
and for the past six months
we’ve made plans to attend
another gathering which we
dare not miss. Only consola-
tion we have, maybe Sanford
will have the barbecue ready
a little early.
Firemen sponsor the bar-
becue annually to raise funds
for department expenditures.
If you’ve never attended one
of the eatin’ meetin’s, and
possibly can, try it.
TB Tests slated Here
Free tuberculin skin tests
will be given to 1st and 7th
grade students in the Howe
public schools on Sept. 29 in
an effort to locate the tuber-
culosis germs.
This program is being of-
fered by the Denison-
Sherman - Grayson County
Health Department in cooper-
ation with the Dallas Area Tu-
berculosis Association and
county and local school super-
