THE ART OF
GETTING ALONG
By Leroy Hollingsworth
There are some things that
cannot be learned in the class-
room, or from reading in
books; but they must be
learned from the experiences
of every day living. One of
the most important of these
it the art of getting along
with others. Some people
seem to learn this art at an
early age, others later in life,
and some go through life and
never seem to learn it.
But sooner or later, a man,
if he is wise, discovers that
life is a mixture of good days
and bad, success and failure,
give and take.
He learns that it doesn’t
pay to let anything “get his
goat.” That he must let some
things go over his head like
water off a duck’s back. He

Van Alstyne, Texas
learns that carrying a chip on
his shoulder is a quick way
to get into a fight. He learns
that buck passing acts many
times like a boomerang, in
that it comes back to you. He
learns that carrying tales and
gossip about others is one of
of the surest ways to become
unpopular. He learns that
giving others a mental lift
by showing appreciation and
praise is also the best way to
give simself a mental lift.
He learns that the world
will not end when he fails or
makes a mistake, but that
generally there is always an-
other day and another oppor-
tunity. He learns that listen-
ing is frequently more im-
portant than talking, and that
often he can make a friend
by letting the other fellow
tell his troubles. He learns
that all men have their gripes
now and then, but that he
shouldn’t let their grumbling
get him down.
He learns that people are
not any more difficult to get
along with in one place than
another and that “getting
along” depends about 98% on
his own behaviour.

you wouldn’t be able to sit
down for six months.
JUNIOR PARTNER
The quack was selling an
elixir which he declared would
make men live to a great age.
“Look at me,” he shouted.
“Hale and hearty, I’m over
300 years old.”
“Is he really as old as
that?” asked a listener of
thei youthful assistant.
“I can’t say,” replied the
assistant, “I’ve only worked
for him 100 years.
at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday ses-
