Mr. 0. N. Puckett Dead
Mr. 0. N. Puckett died at the
Delta Land & Timber Company’s
logging camp. IS miles north of
Conroe last Friday night of ma-
larial fever. Mr. Puckett was
well known and highly respected
by Conroe people, having resid-
ed on his farm north of Conroe
for a number of years, until last
spring, when he moved to the
lumber “front”. His remains
’were laid to rest in Conroe cem-
etery last Sunday afternoon.
N. N. Campbell^of Greenville
was in Conroe Monday in the in-
terest of Hon. (’has. Morris for
governor. Mr. Campbell spoke
to a good size audience at the
court house Monday afternoon,
and his speech was well received.
At night he spoke at Montgom-
ery.. and we are told he had a
good crowd. Mr. Campbell went
from here to Crockett.
The Twentieth Century Club
On July 1. the Twentieth Cen-
tury Club held its last meeting
for the year, which was of un-
usual interest and importance.
We axe now enjoying our vaca-
tion, Uit looking forward to
again meeting together in Sep-"''
tember.
At nearly every meeting the
Club has received one or more 1
new members, but at this last
meeting the record for petitions
for membership received at one
time was the highest in the his-
tory of the Club, six new mem-
bers being added to the Roll to !
start Work next year, who were
as follows: Mrs. Howard Ben-
nette, Mrs. John D. McCall, Mrs.
H N. Urquhart, Mrs. J. B. Nut-
ter. Mrs. Andrew Mudeley and
Miss Bessie Pitts. The Club is
proud of those new members and
feels that when thev get ac-
quainted with the Club and its
work they will be proud of the
Clutv.
Mrs. W, N. Foster then offer-
ed her home fot the use of the
Club next year, which kind invi-
tation was accepted. Now,
please don’t think Mrs. Knight
was tired of us and Mrs. Foster
invited us through sympathy,
for such was not the case. Mrs.
Knight most cordially invited
1 the Club for all of next year,
j but the Club so far has changed
! its place of meeting each year as
we feel it is for the bust inter-
ests of the dub to do so. We do
not want any one neighborhood
to l>e shown favoritism. The
JCluh^gave Mrs. Knight and Mrs.
I Collins a standing vote of thanks
1 for the many favors extended
during the year, and at the
same time voiced its apprecia-
tion of Mrs. Foster’s kindness.
The lesson on Educational and
Social Problems of our Rural
.Neighbors was ably led by Miss
Hete.p Jones. Mrs. Turney gave
la good talk on tfie Girls Indus-
$1.00 Per Year
even after adjournment every-
one seemed loathe to leave, but
we know these vacations are
I U*st us we will all meet again on
the ltllh of September with re-
newed energy and vigor after
our two months’ rest.
