Region VII Directors Hire
Alto, Wells Librarian, Others
The Board of Directors of
Region VII Education Ser-
vice Center approved the
amended budget for 1960-81
and reviewed the proposed
budget for 190-81 at its
(regular meeting Tuesday,
August 18.
The board also approved
the hiring of Alice Dillon as
a librarian for the Alto and
Wells school systems.
The official budget for
1980-81 was $3,452,939.87.
The proposed budget total
for 1981-82 is $3,293,668.61, a
decrease of $159,271 from
the provious year.
Executive Director Don
J. Peters made several
reports, including the
reorganization of the Texas
Education Agency and the
TEA priorities for 1981-83,
which include finance,
teacher preparation and
certification, bilingual
education, and curriculum.
Mr. Peters reported on
the organization of the ser-
vice center and listed as
priorities for 1981-82
stabilizing data processing,
improving curriculum and
instruction, developing a
management information
system, developing the
planning/evaluation fun-
ction of matrix
management, and
reducing personnel tur-
nover.
The Board approved the
employment of the
following: Molly Jackson,
part-time clerk, Film
Library, and part-time
custodian; Lisa Foster,
clerk, Film Library; Jim
Spurring, part-time
student, Film Library,
Reba Johnson, consultant
for Gifted/Talented; Nan-
cy Johnson, clerk,
Curriculum and Instruc-
tion; Richard Botthof, con-
sultant for social studies:
Barbara Jarvis, consultant
for Project EDGE; and
Kay Claybar, consultant
for migrant education
Also, Pamela Orange,
clerk/secretary for
migrant and bilingual
education; Jahnell Tuel,
programmer / operations
specialist for Data
Processing; Clora Austin,
consultant for Special
Education; Jan McBride,
consultant for Special
Education; Ray Lee
Williams, delivery
specialist; and April
Holland, part-time clerk in
Nacogdoches.
Additional support ser
vices personnel include
Stefani Curtis, counselor,
Edgewood ISD; T.M
Hooper, supervisor, Tim-
pson and Tenaha ISDs;

EARNS SUPERIOR RATING-The Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Rusk was
rated a “superior facility" by the Texas Department of Health recently. Shown

tivities director; Jerry Meharry, maintenance engineer; Donna Payne, director of

supervisor. The facility has 107 residents and is rated as an intermediate care
facility III. The superior rating Is based on how the facility “provides care and
services" for its residents, the plaque said, and the rating was based on a July 13

Community Center with

Two visitors were
welcomed Mrs Tom Fitts
and Stacie Edison, gran-
ddaughter of Mrs Bill
Bice, were the visitors
In the ubsence of the
secretary, Mrs Charline
Martin read the minutes of
the July meeting The
president gave a financial
report and then read a let-
ter of thanks from the
granddaughter of Lois
Harney
Under new business,
Mrs Rogers reported that
Mill .Scott had extended an
invitation to the club to
hold a meeting at the
beautiful pool area at his
home in the community
Mrs Danheim moved that
we accept his kind offer
and hold our September
meeting at Mr Scott's
home Amye Henderson
seconded the motion and it
carried
The president announced
that Hally Day will be held
in October The place for
the meeting has not yet
been announced
A very interesting
session of Show and Tell, at
which time each one
showed articles she had
made or received as gifts,
was presented
Following this happy
time, a delicious picnic-
lunch was enjoyed by all

returning thanks for the
food and all other
blessings

school year has gotten off
with a bang We have a new
principal and superinten-
dent and a lot of new rules
which should help to make
A U S a school we can all
be proud of
This being the first week
of school, the halls and
classrooms are full of
chaos The seniors are get
ting down to studying for
once) They're also trying
to get used to having
lockers on the junior high
school side; but we'll
manage
The juniors ar <■* all smiles
thinking “yep. just one
more year Sophomores
are being confused by such
subjects as Algebra II.
biology and world history
Yes, of course, we have
the freshmen They’re run
ntng around like chickens
with no heads and they're
constantly locking for
someone to open their
lockers
We also have the eighth
graders This is their
second year in Junior High
School so they feel quite
experienced
Last, but not least, we
have our babies, the seven
th graders Fresh out of
elementary school. the>
are shy, sweet, and a little
nervous But they'll soon
learn the ropes
