meet in Kingsville, March 24 and 25,
the County Executive Committee of
the Interscholastic League has decided

tunity to attend this meeting.

MEXICAN SCHOOLS.
MARCH 5, 1927.
Sinton, Texas.
A county Meet for the children of
the Mexican Schools will be held at
Sinton, Texas. March 5, 1927, and all
Mexican children in the elementary
.grades of the county school fey stem
will be eligible for the contests. Be-
cause this work is new it has been
(decided to hold only the following con-
tests : declamation, (spelling, arithmetic,
exhibit work, and the rural pentathlon
The declamation contest will be devi-
ed into two divisions, one for girls and
for boys (age not considered). The
girls will use poetry Selections and
the boy®, prose, not over four minutes
dura tin and in the general field of
patriotism and good citizenship. These
declamations are to be given in English
firfet for judging and then, if possible,
in Spanish, for the benefit of the
parents.
The spelling contest is to be divi-
ed into two divisions, by grades; the
Junior division to include grades one
and three; the senior division to in-
clude grades four and seven. The
spelling words will he taken from the
New World Speller, Book One for the
junior division and from Book Two
for the senior division and will in-
clude one hundred words. In each
division the contestants will spell for
fifteen minutefe,- one word every ten
seconds; this is a contest in spelling
and plain writing.
The arithmetic contest will be con-
ducted by the rules and regulations
a/s set forth in bulletin No. 2639, The
Tbree-R Contest: sample sheets can
be obtained from the University of
Texas’, Austin. Texas.
If two or more schools come pre-
pared to enter into a chorals contest,
this will be staged Saturday morning
immediately following the declamation
contest. Please notify the County Su-
perintendent. in advance if your
school should desire to enter into
such a contest.
The events called for in the Rural
pentathlon will be held on the campuis
Saturday afternoon and if there is
sufficient demand, the field and track
events for junior boys will also be
held.

ed: wire, old sheet metal and other
"Junk ’ and rubbish is being thrown
on the public roads and into the road
ditches and drain ditches of the
County;
It is therefore ordered by the
Court that the County Attorney and

matter to the end that all persons
guilty of such obstruction may be
prosecuted under the criminal laws;

IS CALLED BY DEATH
Robert A. Cain. 76, a resident of
Mathis, San Patricio county for 17
years and president of the First State
Bank of Mathis, died suddenly Sun-
day afternoon at the family home
after several months of failing health.
Deceased was a native of Ringgold,
Ga., coming from there to Wood
County, Tex., in 1877. There lie be-
came well known in financial and po-
litical circles. Moving to Mathis in
1910, he made that place his home
continuously up to the time of his
death. Hd is survived by his wife,
who before her marriage was Miss
Maggie Boyd, and five children, as
follows: Mrs. T. V. Hardin of San
Patricio, Mrs. O. A. Meacham of
Child rets, Mrs. A. C. Koepsel Jr., and
Mrs. W. F. Koepbel of Mathis, and
William O. Cain of Lafayettei, La.
Funeral services were held at the
Baptist Church at Mathis Tuesday
afternoon with Rev. H. H. Spillyards,
pastor, officiating. Interment was in
Mathis cemetery, with lodge No. 1133,
A. F. and A. M. in charge of services
at the grave.
