Thursday night Inflicting wounds that may
yet piovc fatal was captured last evening
near Welsh twentyfive miles east of town
The deputies who had him In charge came
to town overland hoping to get him Into
jail under coier of darkness meanwhile
a party of determined men had organized
and went to the edge of the iclty to Inter-
cept the officers with their prisoner the
latter however came by another road
but their arrival was soon known They
hid out hoping to wear out the patience
of the mob but the moment they approach-
ed the Jail they were surrounded the
deputies were pushed back and the negto
taken to a nearby electric light pole where
he was soon dangllug There was no shoot-
ing or disturbance and the first the people
of the city learned of It was when he
was found at daylight this moming Be-
fore he was hanged the negro confessed
but claimed that he did not know It was
au officer he attacked Poydras was a
despeiate negro and was a terror to his
own race The affair created no excite-
ment though It Is the first lynching Lake
Charles has had for thirty years
