Connie Mack’s famous score-
card has lost none of its fabled
magic. The aged Cornelius, as
you must know, sits in the dug-
out during a game, and wigwags
his signals to the players by wav-
ing a scorecard. Whether he ever
really keeps score on the card
is something I never found out.
Anyway, Connie and his score-
couple of pretty good outfielders.
With a lot of luck, they might
finish seventh, but even, that isn’t
very likely.
These experts must have found

WASHINGTON, June 14, (INS)—
In defense of an independent
Federal Judiciary, the Senate
Judiciary committee today filed
its adverse majority report, ap-
pealing through Congress to the
American people to defeat Presi-
dent Roosevelt’s Supreme Court
bill as an invasion of the judicial
judges at a
given age. This, it held, would
provide for new blood in the
courts of the future as well as
now.
The report, approved by 10
members of the committee, urged
defeat of the bill because it fail-
ed to accomplish any of the ob-
jectives claimed for it by the
President.
It was indorsed by Senators
King of Utah, Van Nuys of In-
diana, McCarran of Nevada,
Hatch of New Mexico, Burke of
Nebraska, Connally of Texas,
O’Mahoney of Wyoming, all
Democrats, and Borah of Idaho,
Austin of Vermont, and Steiwer
of Oregon, Republicans.

An independent judiciary, the
committee declared, is “the price-
less heritage of every American.”
To preserve it as a part of the
0 j American system, it added, is
01 “immeasurably more important

beneficial.”
If the President really desires
the infusion of “constant new

the committee recommended, let

Citizens of 45th street, who co-

with the employe who wrote
