Health and Wealth
Day, Saturday 16th
With only the weather problemati-
cal, prospects for a heavy attendance
at the first monthly Health and
Wealth Day celebration iere Saturday
were excellent Thursday. The cham-
ber of commerce has been busy all
week with its advertising program,
and response from over the trade
territory appears certain.
Finishing touches were being put
on the ax-rangements for the big day,
speakers ah'eady having been ar-
ranged for, along with other details.
Free sandwiches and coffee for out-
of-town visitors had been ordered and
preparations were being made for the
exhibit of purebred livestock and
poultry on the public square which is
to be the center of the attraction.
This exhibit is sponsored by the
chamber of commerce with the pur-
pose of encouraging the building up
of registered herds in Lampasas
trade territory, in line with the tre-
mendous interest being shown all over
the state in dairying and other farm
livestock projects. If the weather is
thi'eatening, however, it may not be
possiblei to include the battery of
chick brooders, each housing a colony
of day-old, standard-bred chicks,
which has been arranged for.
Two of the three speakers will talk
on the subjects in line with the live
stock exhibits. They are Dean A. H.
Leidigh of the school of agriculture
of Texas Technological College, Lub-
bock, and H. M. Madison, agricultural
agent of the Southern Pacific R. R.
lines, Houston. Dr. Leidigh’s subject
will be “Importance of Pure Bred
Live Stock in Diversification,” while
that of the agricultural agent will be
“Live Stock in Soil Building.” This
latter covers the value of fertili ier
obtained from the stock itself.
The effiicacy of Lampasas white
sulphur waters in the treatment of
gastritis and other stomach ills will
be emphasized by Dr. J. G. Townsen,
appointed by the Lampasas County
Medical Society as its representative
to the meeting.
Secretary Louis F. Hart has been
busy visiting the different towns in
the trade territory all week and re-
poi’ts much interest evident as far as
he has been able to go' thus far. He
will continue the advertising up until
the eve of the celebration, it is an-
nounced.
CHESTNUT STREET BRIDGE
IS SOON TO BE REPAIRED
Mrs. Coleman Fountain and little
son left Thursday for Anson, where
they will visit in the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wagley.
The county commissioners and city
council have reached an agreement
whereby they will, together, put the
Chestnut street bridge in first class
shape in the near future. The Agree-
ment was reached Wednesday morn-
ing and in -the afternoon part of the
material necessary for the work was
ordered. We are informed that the
bridge will be given a thorough over-
hauling and will be in first class shape
when completed. In the agreement
between the county and city it was
decided that the city would take the
tain it.
This will be good news to the peo-
ple who have been using the bridge
the past several months, as it has
been in a very bad state of repair and
the patching done on it would not help
for any length of time. The people
are now promised a first class bridge
which will be both safe and pleasant
to drive across.
At the Premier Ranch, Mason coun-
ty, O. Kothmann, owner, will sell at
auction, 35 to 50 head of registered
bulls on March 7, 1929. Sale to be-
gin at 1:30 p. m. This is your chance
bridge when it is completed and main- I to get some fine animals.
