There isn't one at the boys who dacm'l
have electric light, a radio, m washing
machine and n toaster in hln home, and
most of'em have electric ice-boxes and
vacuum cleaners too. Yet it doesn't east
'em much more, If any, to operate all
(hose things than it used to cost for light
alone, because rate* have been rut just
about in half during the last twelve or
fifteen years.
"If we could sell electric service by the
pound or hy the quart, people could aoo
what they were genin'. They'd realise
how much electric service they uae and
how many jab* it does. And they'd ap-
preciate how much less electricity casts
now than It used to.

hove gone down, they any, 'Well then,
why don't our bills go down?'
"Now all those fellas the other night
hod paid money to bowl and some of'em
paid for extra games. Yet they didn't
give it a second thought. I suppose be-
cause they could see what they were
gettin'. It would hr the same If they
bought an extra pack of cigarettes or an
extra tank of 'g*s. But electric service,
that's different. W hen they want to do
somethin' nice for their wires they go
out and boy some kind of electric appli-
ance to make the housework lighter. Or
they buy an electric razor for them-
selves. They and their folks get plefaty of
comfort and pleasure ont of those gadg-
ets. Bat when the hills came in they
sometimes forget how much service
they had for that money.
"The reman that saane bills don't go
down In that a good many families use a
lot mat electricity than they mod to.
