EQUIPMENT IN PERLMAN MEMORIAL
HOSPITAL AMONG FINEST IN AREA
MR. and MRS. FRED GRAY have
one of the moat attractive little
daughters In the county. CAROLYN
SUE is as pretty as her picture, and
we had the pleasure of looking over
several recent photos of this fine
young lady. The shots were made by
WALTER ORTOLANI, highway en-
gineer, and when he takes a picture
yon can bet your last dollar that It
will be a good one. We also looked
over a sizeable photo of WAYNE
ORTOLANI, the engineer's healthy
looking young all-American son.
In this issue of the county news-
paper appears a special section made
possible by merchants Interested In
----the, opening of the new hospital In
Carthage. DR. SAMUEL PERLMAN
wlil own the new hospital and will
bead its staff of nurses. DR. PERL-
MAN deserves the plaudits of the
community In bis worthy undertaking.

Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Burnham of
Selnian City. Texas and their threo
young daughters were injured Sun
day afternoon, when their automobile
collided with a pickup allegedly driv-
en by a man named Blackstock, ac
companied by a Panola County citi-
zen, Pete Carter.
The accident occured while the
highway was slick and slippery. The
cause of the mishap was being lu
vestigated this week by sta«e high-
way patrolmen A. L. Chllcoate and
Earl Elliott. Local officers also drove
to the scene of the accident Sunday
and made an investigation. Both
Hawthorn ambulances answered the
wreck call, and the entire Burnham
family, Blackstock, and Carter were
rushed to this city for medical treat-
ment. Blackstock later was removed
to his home in Center, Texas. He has
beeu Identified as being a gin oper-
ator in this ^ounty and n well known
cltlsen of 'Shelby county.
Besides Mr. and Mrs. Burnham and
the two occupants of the jKjlt truck,

daughter, Carolyn Jane, age 6 months.
The baby was reported to be serious-
ly injured and when removed from
Carthage Sunday for further treat-
ment elsewhere was not expected to
recover.
Dr. Samuel Perlman, local phyalciau
and surgeon Is opening his hospital
the Perlman Memorial, on north St.
Mary’s Street in Carthage, May 4th
and Stb.
Dr. Perlman haa arranged nurses
quarters for six graduate nurses, and
they will assume their duties at the
local institution this week-end.
Hospital rooms have been attrac-
tively furnished with quality furniture
and special Simmons beds. Prlviate
rooms are equipped no better thun
the ward sections. The hospital style
beds are adjustable, and self lubri-
cating.
The hospital will feature the floure-
sceut lighting system throughout;
giving a tubular non-glare effect. A
laboratory haa been Included in the
plana on the lower floor near tho
apace allocated for the emergency
room, and immediately behind th*;
general office. The emergency re-
ceiving room Is one of the most spac-
ious units in the entire structure, and
has been completely equipped. The
surgical room is also situated' on the
malu floor and is supplied with spec-
ial Castle Surgical Lamps which
move independently of each other,
in addition to the overhead floure-
scent bulbs. Adjacent to the emer-
gency room downstairs a special
xray room is Included. The equipment
in this room Is the largest manufac-
tured for the purpose of xray diag-
nosis. Bed cradles have also been in-
stalled to give patients who enter
the hospital for treatment of injuries
received from barns tbe best pos-
sible comfort. A special removal
stretcher to take patients from the
ambulance Into the hospital ts

New Ice Scoring
Machine
The Southwestern Gas 4k Electric
Company announces a new service
for Its patrons. The installation of a
new Ice scoring machine has Just
been completed here.
This machine accurately divides
a block of Ice into various cuts from
twenty-five pounds to one hundred
pounds. All blocks ot ice are manu-
factured overweight before being
scored in order to take care of melt-
age during the delivery period. By
the use of the scoring machine neat
and uniform cuts are produced at all
times.
Mr. J. C. McMichael manager, said,
“We are Indeed glad to announce
this Improvement in service to oar
customers and to glva them the ad-
vantage of the better type of service
that Is available through the use of
modern methods of Ice scoring . . . .

In the autoclave room a gigantic
sterilizing machine has beenplaced
In operation and all Instruments need-
ed In an operation and all 'wearing
apparel_used by the operating sur-
geon and his attendants will be
thoroughly sterilised and sleansed in
this department. In the surgery room
besides the complete surgical table
which tilts and is raised, lowered, or
placed In any position by use of in-
strument controls. A Me Kessou type
anethestlc gas unit has been Included.
This Is positively the latest develop-
ment in this line. Auxiliary Instru-
ment tables with special removable
pans and metallic cabinets for In-
strument storage along with ample
basin equipment has been Installed.
All surgical tables are supplied with
brakes which prevent the table from
rolling and insures a stationary posi-
tion nt nil times.
The second story of the hospital
provides ample space for nurses quar-
ters, wards, private rooms, private
baths, and a large hallway. A mod-
ern attic ventilation system will be
installed to offer solid comfort in
patients during the summer month*.
Quarters for colored patients have
been arranged on tbe lower floor. A
large kitchen, completely equipped
with gas and special hot water tanks
joins n dining room arranged to ac-
comodate twelve persons. The flash
system will be used and carry direct
connections to the nurses quarters.

NURSES TO STAFF
LOCAL HOSPITAL
Six five-years graduate nurses from
Charity Hospital In Shreveport, La.
will staff the new Perlman Memorial
Hospital which is opening in Carth-
age this week.
They are: Mrs. Xorma Price and
MLses Vonnie Ferguson. Guasio
Moore, Neva Reagan and Carrie San-
derson. Miss Sanderson is the neice
of a prominent Shreveport physician
and head of Charity Hospital there.
Tho nnrses arrived In Carthage
early this week, and have already
moved Into hospital quarters.

and exscutlve meetings. Miss Ruth
Simpson, the club’s delegate) repre-
sented Beckville In each of these
meetings.
Betty Etheridge also participated in
a "Feeding the Family” contest:
Jnno Metcalf entered “Planning Ar-
tistic and Comfortable Housing” co.t-
test; while Sue Nelle Stephens en-
tered a “Making Your Home Mor<»
