Lovell Kelley, Riley Cannon Give Boost
To Broiler Industry in Panola County
The Panola County broiler business got a tremendous
boost this week when Lovell Kelley, manager of the local R. E.
Rawls Lumber Company, announced that he had completed ar-
rangements which will enable broiler houses to be financed at
reasonable interest rates and with a minimum of red tape.
Mr. Kelley, along with Riley Cannon, owner-manager of
the local Carthage Feed and Supply Company, have been
working untiringly towards bringing the broiler industry to Pa-
nola County. Some excellent progress had already been made
prior to the announcement this week by Mr. Kelley of financial
aid, but now a big surge in broiler house building for our coun-
ty is assured. Financing of the houses has been a big draw
back. But with the new financial aid plus the assistance.of Mr.
Cannon in stocking the houses the broiler business should
boom. - _:
Broiler raising ties in perfectly with Panola County agri-
culture. It is ideal for the small farm. If properly operated the
broiler houses will provide a steady income at certain intervals
during the year.
The market for broilers should continue to be good for
pome time yet. The high cost of meat tends to keep the broiler
market up. -
Our community owes Mr. Kelley and Mr. Cannon a vote
of th»nV« for their efforts in bringing the Broiler industry to
Panola County. It will be a shot in the arm to our community
economy. _

And the cost of living seems to be going still higher.
But the cost of Southwestern’s electric service stats
down.
Ia fact the price of electricity Is lower than It was In
1940...something you can’t say about many of the neces-
sities of life you buy.
Tour monthly electric bill may be higher than It was a
year or so ago...It probpbly is. That’s because you are
using more and more electricity. And you’ll be using more
still In the future because electricity Is doing more and more
work around the house... providing more and more con-
veniences and comforts. *
