ANDERSON, OSCAR
F32O.C. Anderson Family: Ann, Madge, Vere, Joyce, Juanita, Ovie.
In 1923, Ovie married Juanita Madgeline
Cox at Cranfills Gap. They operated a
grocery store at Cranfills Gap, farmed in
West Texas and returned to Clifton in 1945.
They owned and operated Anderson Cafe. In
later years, Ovie became a contract painter,
and Juanita was employed at Clifton Mer-
cantile Company. Both were active in Lu-
theran Church affairs. To this union were
born four daughters and one son (deceased).
Onita Madgeline, first of four daughters,
was born 1924, at Cranfills Gap. Madge
married Alvin Hill Prince, 1946, in Clifton.
Alvin's mother was Mrs. Myrtle Prince
Mitchell, who resided in Clifton and was a
teacher. (See story on Alvin and Myrtle
Prince.)
Madge is presently employed by the Fort
Worth Independent School District at West-
ern Hills High School, where she has worked
in the Data Processing Department since
1967. The Princes reside in Azle, Texas.
The two daughters of this union are Linda
Joyce (1953) and Janis Ann (1955). Linda and
Janis attended Weatherford College. Linda
married William Davis, Azle, 1975. Janis
married Brian Surnea, of Gloversville, New
York, 1980. The Princes' grandchildren are
Kimberly Renee Davis (1975) and Bryan Hill
Davis (1977).
Vere Amotine, second of four daughters,
was born 1926, at Lorenzo, Texas. Vere
married Douglas A. Railsback, second son of
John B. and Ada A. Railsback, 1947 in
Clifton.
Douglas graduated from Clifton High
School and Clifton Jr. College, then attended
Montana State University. He served in the
United States Army, 8th Air Corps (1943)
and was discharged 1946. He was employed
by the United States Postal Service, 1947, as
city carrier, clerk, and assistant postmaster,
and retired in 1977. Douglas served as First
Sergeant with the National Guard when it
was reorganized in Clifton in 1949. Later, he
became Company Commander, and it was
during this time that the Armory was built
in City Park. He also worked in BattalionHeadquarters, (Personnel Officer) at Waco
and retired after thirty-five years.
Vere graduated from Petersburg High
School, attended Clifton Jr. College, and was
employed at Walls Industries. She served as
operator and line supervisor in the Clifton
plant, retiring in 1984. Douglas and Vere have
been active in civic affairs.
To this union were born Deborah Diane
(1950), Donna Louanne (1953) and David
Wayne (1955). David was married to Christi
Brewer, 1980. The Railsbacks' grandchildren
are Julie (1972) and Brandon Olson (1976),
Stacey (1972) and Jason Simmons (1976),
Jon Railsback (1981) and Jared Railsback
(1984).
Mary Ann, third of four daughters, was
born 1931, at Lorenzo, Texas. Ann married
Charles O. Bronstad, son of Alvin and
Georgia Bronstad, 1952, in Clifton. They
reside in Aurora, Colorado. (See A.L. Bron-
stad family story.)
To this union were born Susan Marie
(1957) and Cathy Lynn (1959). Susan gradu-
ated from the University of Denver, with a
B.S. in Analytical Chemistry, 1979. She
resides in Golden, Colorado. Lynn graduated
from Colorado State University, with a B.S.
in Social Work, 1981. Lynn was married to
Richard Scott Hammersmith in 1982. They
reside in Sheridan, Wyoming.
Joyce Corine, fourth of four daughters, was
born 1934, at Lorenzo, Texas. Joyce married
John Fred Weir, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Fred Weir, Sr. of Valley Mills, Texas, 1955,
in Clifton. Fred has a B.S. degree from the
University of Texas, and a Masters degree
from North Texas State University. He was
a coach in several Texas high schools and is
presently a principal in the Azle School
System, and a Colonel in the Air Force
Reserve. Joyce is a graduate of Southwest
College, with a B.S., and also teaches in the
Azle School System. The Weirs reside in Azle,
Texas.
To this union were born Charlotte Marie
(1956) and Sharon Kay (1961). Charlotte
graduated with a B.A., from East Texas StateOscar and Mary Anderson-1925

Oscar Anderson was born in 1860 in
Brownsboro, Henderson County, the son of
Ole A. and Berget (Tergerson) Anderson,
both born in Norway, and came to the United
States in 1850. They had sailed from Arendal,
Norway, with a large group of Norwegian
immigrants, arriving in New Orleans, then
going up the Mississippi River in a steam
paddle-wheeler to Shreveport, then overland
in ox-pulled wagons to Brownsboro.
They were married in 1852. Two older
brothers, Andrew and William, and a sister,
Annie, (who later married Ole NysteX) were
born in Brownsboro. When Oscar was five
years old, (in 1865), the family moved to the
Norwegian settlement at Four Mile Prairie in
