Evelyn, Terry, and T.C. Handley.
Thomas Curtis, known as T.C., was born
on June 3, 1925, on a farm in the Neils Creek
Community. He was the son of Clarence D.
and Thelma Richards Handley.
T.C. served in the Infantry during World
War II and was wounded on the island of
Leyte. He was educated in the Clifton Public
Schools and graduated from North Texas
State with two degrees. His last degree was
from Sul Ross University, Alpine, Texas. He
started his teaching career in Vocational
Education, teaching veterans in Meridian.
He taught high school vocational in Brown-
field, Taylor and Ft. Stockton.
T.C. married Evelyn Adkins in Brownfield,
Texas, January 2, 1952. They were the
parents of Joe, Don, and Terry. Presently Joe
is in New Mexico and has two children, Ty
and Burk. Don is in Ohio and has three
children, Cary, Stacey and Channen. Terry
and husband, Phillip Patton, live in South
Carolina and have one son, Thomas Andrew.
T.C. was active in various civic clubs and
was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He and
his wife, Evelyn, made a career of teaching
and at the time of his death in 1980, he was
principal and Evelyn a teacher, teaching the
Yupik Eskimo in a Bureau of Indian Affairs
school in the village of Kasigluk, Alaska.
Evelyn still works for the Bureau of Indian
Affairs as a speech pathologist and audiolo-
gist in Bethel, Alaska.

Charlie and Ida Shafer Hanna, both de-
ceased, moved to the Union Hill Community
near Kopperl around 1919. Originally from
Meridian, the Hannas previously lived on the
place known as "Hanna Crossing". Surviving
children include Mrs. Neoma Baker, Mrs.
Lena Doty, Charles Odell Hanna and Aubrey
Hanna all of Cleburne, Texas. Deceased
children are: Jack Hanna, Clyde Hanna, also
a daughter, Mrs. Winnie Vaughn.

HANNA, CHARLIE W.

All nine children were born on the Hanna
Crossing, except Jack Hanna, who was born
at his grandparents' home in Heron, Texas.
All children were farmers or dairymen except
Aubrey Hanna, who retired from the Santa
Fe Railroad. Deceased family members rest
in Rose Hill Cemetery in Cleburne.

Jeff Davis Hanna was born June 11, 1861,
on the Hanna farm near Meridian, Texas. He
was one of the sons of John S. and Jane
Riddle Hanna. He married Addie Graves in
Bosque County in 1888. She was the daughter

Charlie Wylie Hanna (1864-1947) married
Ida Ellen (1885-1943) in 1895. They rest in
Rose Hill Cemetery.
Wylie and Ida had nine children: John R.
(Jack) Hanna (1896-1971), World War I
veteran who married Addie Duvall in 1922;
Winnie Pearl Hanna (1898-1964), married
William Daniel Vaughan in 1919; Herbert
Davis Hanna (1903-1972), married Willie
Mae Cannon in 1926; Lena Wylie Hanna
(1905), married Walter Flemon Doty in 1925
and now resides in Cleburne; Clyde Walter
Hanna (1907-1978), married Avenell Hines in
1939; Dee Hanna (1911), married Ollie Scott
in 1940 and resides now in Godley, Texas;
Neoma Hanna (1913), married Elmo Baker
in 1938 and resides in Cleburne; Aubrey
Hanna (1916), married Betty Foster in 1943
and resides in Keene Nursing Home in
Keene, Texas; Odell Hanna (1919) now
resides in Cleburne.

10,1870 in Springfield, Illinois.
Jeff and Addie purchased part of the John
S. Hanna farm and added additional acreage.
He was a progressive farmer-stockman. He
continually worked to improve the quality of
his stock and land. Addie graciously gave of
her time to help neighbors in need, regardless
of the hour or the weather conditions.
Jeff served one term in the Texas Legisla-
ture, 1920-1921, while Pat Neff was Governor
of Texas. His picture hangs along with other
state representatives in the state capitol.
The Hanna family was proud of a ford over
the Bosque River called Hanna Crossing.
Near the corssing was a beautiful grove of
trees which was the scene of many picnics and
church revival meetings. Baptismal services
were held in the river.
Jeff was a deacon in the Baptist church and
was also a Mason. He believed in progress.
