This is the time of year more than j

Nature never seems to grumble

You don’t hear the trees complainin’

it looked as though not a lock would
be gathered, but by some miracul-
ous transformation a fair yieldage
would be realized ere the season
closed. Conditions this year rfTe little
out of the ordinary. Due to the ex-
cessive rains cotton has been some-
what late. There is too much stalk
on the black land and this is against
the yieldage. It has grown so rank
that very little fruit is noiceablc on
the stalk. Insects seem to have got-
ten in their work destroying most of
the Rquares and young bolls The
black land however still has plenty
of time to put on a late crop and
it is believed by many that it will.
The sandy or tight land promises a
good crop. Examination revealR that
the stalk on this land is well fruited
and bids fair to make a good crop,
nothing further preventing.
As stated last week at this sea-
son of the year a* has been the case
in yearg past folks are inclined to
become discouraged and say that we
are in for almost a complete failure.
Nothing was further from the truth.
Even though prospects may seem
somewhat rioomy there is going to
be some cotton made.
The summary of the cotton report
by counties over Texas in Sunday's
Dallas Morning News listed Fannin
county as a fair report. This is in-
formation gathered from over the
state by farmers and ginners and
is considered very authentic.

Spring and summer, autumn and
winter, Madam Anopheles, the mala-

i the darkness of the night we hear
I her and know she is seeking our
blood, seeking a place to puncture

a close observer may recognize her,
for she is the only mosquito that

The reason, I believe, that people
fail to return thanks for screens is
that they take them for granted just
as they do ancestors and some other
blessings to which they have always
been accustomed. \But screens are
more modern than many think. Ihe
writer was first to screen a house in
Ladonia, and perhaps in this county
and entire section of the country.
Before we had screens, people did
not know of the pernicious character
of fliea and mosquitos, though forae
found theology in their buzzing; and
keeping flies off the table was a part
of their religion, true to the teaching
of John Wesley that “Cleanliness is
indeed next to godliness.”
