TWENTY TRACK MEN ENTER HARD
TRAINING PRIOR TO APRIL MEET
Conch Wcema has been sending1 his
twenty-odd vtrxick candidates through
vigorous and fruclling workouts for
the past two weeks. With only five
weeks between them and their first
competitive meet the men nro slowly
being drilled into condition.
Some promising material has been
found since the first call was sounded
and prospects nro bright for the re-
generation of tho best of sports
track. It takes good men for a coach
to arouse public enthusiasm in this
sport and Wccms is optimistic about
tho outlook for tho year but ho is far
from predicting a winning team as it
takes work on the part of the indi-
viduals to assure this.
Captain Nelson star two-miler of
course is the biggest light. He excels
so in his event that no competition has
even developed for him. However he
is not tho only distance man who is
attracting attention. Livingston
Simpson Coffman and Vaughn arc

the present time Vaughn is showing
tljo best form on tho half-mile. Thrush

Frederick high appears likely to out-
shine him when his knee heals.
Coalson and Wiggins nro looking

er is also one of tho leading contend-
ers for tho javelin event having

f the dash men. Both are clipping
tho century in good time and promise
to do even better.
Pogue hailing -from South Texas
is clearing tho bar the .highest in the
High jump although ho has so far
failed to meet to record which ho
was reported to have made in high
school.
Or. the hurdles things are of n
brighter hue. Griffith an Anson
graduate is showing good form on
tho low hurdles as is Bynum on the
high.
The team is weak in tho weight
cVents. No ono capable of putting tho
fchot has been found. Simpson Huff)
and Ewlng are coming through fairly
well on th'6 Javelin and discus-
Powell and Hill star baskcters will
materlaly aid tho track team after
tho Baskctbal season is over. Powoll
is a fast sprinter and nill can sail
over tho high hurdles fairly well.
Coach Wccms says that tho relay
team has a good chance to make a
record. If four men nro found who
nro fast enough ho will tako them

FRESHMEN CHOOSE MEMBER
OF OPTIMIST STAFF
AS EDITOR
An important meeting of the Fresh-
man class Tuesday resulted in tho
election of Dylo Vaughn as the Editor
in Chief of that issuo of tho Optimist
to be published by tho Freshmen.
Vaughn will select his assistant.
There is no doubt that tho Fresh-
men made a wise choice for Vaughn
has done more work for tho Optimist
than any other member of tho Fresh-
man class. Ho has completed tho re-
quired number of hours which nro
necessary before ho is allowed to bo
a member of tho Press Club. Ho has
dono especially good work on tho
write-ups of tho ball games and has
worked his way into tho coveted es-
teem of tho Editors of tho Optimist
"Freshmon get behind your man!
Hero's your chnnco for fame
We must mako our Optimist
Worthy of its name.
Talk a bit and laugh a bit
But work a whole great lot
Then we'll let tho juniors know
We're right hero on tho dot.
Dylo's a keen boy; this wo know
Being neither rum or mum
Come on Fish let's show tho school
That we ain't so dumb.
And when we carry off tho honors
As we're sure to do
We'll make tho mighty Seniors wish
That they were Freshmen too.

day morning and evening for the
church at Silver.
LECTURESHIP CONTINUED
WITH GREAT ENTHUSIASM
(Continued from Pago 1)
"Wattorl Tako this egg awayl"
roared tho elderly diner. "Take it
away."
"Yes sir" said tho waiter as ho
glanced wistfully at the .offending
article. "And and what shall I do
with it sir?"
"Do with it?" Tho outraged cus-
tomer rose menacingly from his chair
"Do with it?" ho bellowed fiercely.
"Why wring its neck."
Brother Smlthsdn also stated in his
lecture that if ono denied divine
nature ho denied tho creation of man
and tho virgin birth of Christ. Ih
then declared that divino nature wa
God's nature and that ho was d
spirit. To manifest this ho sent h
son into world who was .divine being
begotten by tho Holy Spirit and who
was human being born of woman
His meet was to do tho will of the
Father. To do tho will of tho Father
is meet to those who partake of the
spiritual nature of Christ.
Farther along in his discourse
Brother Smithson emphasized his
point by saying "God is light.' 'The
purposo of light is to reveal point
out differenco between right and
wrong truth and error. Jesus wns
the true light that guideth every
man coming into tho world. In Him
is life. God is love and Jesus is ar
embodiment of God's love. Love is
greater than death higher than
heaven and more powerful than earth-
ly power. It is never fnileth and
Christ manifested the characteristics
of love in that beingjwiled Ho re-
viled not again belngersccuted he
answered nll but committed himself
to him who judgcth righteously. On
calvary ho said 'Father forgive them
for they know not what they do'."

for lecturo weok. Brother Etter has
planned to go to Japan as a mission-
ary and tho lecturo showed that ho
has nothing at heart but the glorify-
ing of God and the paving of th"
world. Tho definition that ho gave
to theory was "a set of religious
principles" and to practice "the using
of those principles." He stressed tho
importance of having tho right theory
but ho made his hearers realize how
far tho church fails in practicing this
theory. His theme in simple langu-
ago was "Practico what you preachl"
Among tho other important things
that ho emphasized wero: humility
self-sacrifice kindness faithfulness
and stadfastness in tho Lord's work.
