London. September 5.—The Germans advance lontinues
night and day. The troops are utilizing moonlight and resting
in the heat of the day. when not fighting. Behind the Germans
is a devasted country. As the allies retreat they dynamite ev-
erything that might aid the German advance. The latter how-
ever speedily repair essentials with the greatest transport train
ever gotten together. Speed at any cost appars to be the mot
to.
It is estimated that the German losses are twenty per cent,
ard that of the allies is placed at eight per cent. The London
Mail says the Germans have losl 200.000 men.

\ntvverp, September A strong force of German- with
heavy artillery is moving towards Antwerp. Probably an at
tempt will be made to pen up the Belgians, although a *eriou*
siege is not expected. The headquarters of the German stall
has been moved from Brussels to Mons and then to an tinmen
tinned point inside French territory.
Refugees bring terrible stories of misery and auflenng and
starvation throughout Belgium. Industry is at a standstill.
