At Greenville
NEW YEAR 1924
thoriz d to at Headed by Assistant Chief of Police
lowing Candida.e? for Lucian Porter, local officers made a
in the democratic primary. rlth Christmas haul of 250 quarts of
Scotch whiskey on Christmas Eve day
and arrested a man and woman who
are held to answer for transpc rtng;
whiskey.
They were traveling in a 1924 model
Buie car and claim to have come from
New Orleans with the booze.
They did not resist the officers.
When questioned by officers before
arrest the man admitted that he had
a “■small quantity of liquor"
The small quantity looked rather
, large to the officers when a full in-
vestimation revoaled 62 1-2 pallons or
rather 250 quails of Scotch whiskey.
A larger haul than this was made
i>n the Bankhead highwuy between
For Public Weigher, Prerint 1 and 5 cado Mills and Royae City a week
earlier by Rockwall and Dallas officers
but this was (.tie al the largest cap-
tures made here for some time.
It was Greenville police officers who
punctured the pas tank of a whiskey
' car some months past with a steel bul-
let and it had been generally under-
stood that whiskey curs wore giving
this town a wide berth since that time
but bad roads possibly was eause of
this load of Scotch whiskey coming
this way and potting in the toils.—
