Governor Dolph Briscoe has
designated the week ot August
13 through August IS as “Public
I mployeos Week’’ in Texas.
This annual affair recognizes
the role of the state, county and
city employee in performing the
vital functions of governments
which all people in Texas enjoy.
The Texas Public employees
Association, composed of over
37.U00 state employees, has
selected the theme of “In the
Serv ice of Texans” for the 1973
Public employees Week. These
dedicated employees are proud
to serve ut all capacities while
executing the functions of gov-
ernment incur complex sueietv.
Professionalism through pride
in employment contributes to
die efficient administration of
our State government. High-
lights of the meeting will be a
Monday morning address by
Lieutenant Governor Bill Hob-
by. At this meeting there will
be approximately 350 delegates
representing all state employ-
ees throughout the State. They
will convene to conduct Asso-
ciation business and also to
explore ways whereby greater
efficiency might be accomplish-
ed in the administration of state
government.
As the state capital. Austin,
has more state employees re-
siding therein than any other
metropolitan area in Texas,
thus, it is fitting that Austin
should be the focal point of Pu-
blic Employees Week

Gulf States l nited Telephone
Company has established a film
lending library for the com-
munities in which they provide
telephone service, according to
A. C. Smith, local manager at
Cooper.
The library will contain a
quantity of 16mm films on a
broad range of subjects and
appealing to various age levels.
Eilms were selected for their
educational, as well as enter-
tainment values.
“The films will be made
available to local schools, civic
groups and other local organ-
izations, free of charge, Mr.
Smith said.
A catalog of available films
may be obtained from your
local telephone business office.
Orders for films can be made
through the business office or
by mail, using the order card
in the catalog.
“Organizations planning to
use the films should give about
four weeks’ advance notice.”
Mr. Smith warned, “as the films
will be distributed on a first
come, first serve basis.”

the doctor of humane letters
degree.
His Excellency Ardeshir /a-
hedi. Iranian ambassador to the
l nited States, was awarded
the honorary doctor of laws
and has accepted an invitation
to deliver the commencement
address.
Mrs. Aik in’s award was ap-
proved Friday (July 30) by the
I ISl Board of Regents meet-
ing in Dallas. Ambassador/a-
hedi’s award was approved at
the May board meeting.
Mrs. Aikin. who is an alum-
nus of the university and wife
of the dean of the Texas State
Senate, will be honored primar-
ily for her work in promoting
conservation and beautification
throughout the stale. She has
served both as chairman of the
boatd oi tiusiees and president
of Texas Garden Clubs, Inc.,
and on the board of the National
Council of State Garden Clubs.
She has provided leadership
for numerous regional and state
beautification projects, includ-
ing development of landscape
design for the governor’s man-
sion in Austin. Mrs. Aikin holds
the rating “landscape design
critic” and is a nationally ac-
credited exhibition judge of the

and a garden judge of the Amer-
ican Iris Society.
Ambassador Zahedi, the first
foreign dignitary to be honored
at ELSE, has also served as
Iranian ambassador to I ngland,
minister of foreign affairs, spe-
cial adviser to the prime min-
ister of Iran, chamberlain to
the Shah of Iran, and superin-
tendent of Iranian students a-
broad.
I lie ambassador, who holds a
degree in engineering from the
l Diversity of I tali, has been de-
corated seven times for ser-
vice to Ins government and has
received 3k decorations from 33
other countries.
Ambassador Zahedi will be
honored for his role in pro-
moting educational opportun-
ities abroad for Iranian
students. Seventeen Iranian sui-
dents attended I ESI this year,
and they annually represent one
ol the largest groups if inter-
national students on campus.
