Relative to the paving »l that part
of Main street crossed by the right-of-
way ot' the Texas &. Pacilic railway
tracks, and Lite ugieement of that
company to pave that part of the
street, which was announced ill last
week’s Sun, the following correspond-
ence m regurd to the matter will prove
of interest:
“Dallas, Texas, Sept. l.r>.—Thos. S.
McGrain: Replying to your letter of
1 July 14 regarding paving at Grand Sa-
line: Please pardon delay in making
reply as sometimes matters of this
kind are slow in handling to secure
necessary authority. However, 1 am
glad to say that our receivers have au-
thorized this work and Superintendent
McKay at Marshall has been advised
accordingly.—J. A. Somerville, Gen.
Mgr.”
"Grand Saline, Texas, Sept. 18.—J.
A. Somerville, Dallas: Replying to
your valued letter of the 15th: The
. writer appreciates -very mui h indeed
the fact that your good company will
do the paving in Grand Saline. 1 be-
lieve that this will be a project ttiat
will b£ both serviceable and profitable
to your good company. The property
owners in Grand Saline who are doing
the paving work in front of their prop-
erty appreciate very much indeed the
fact that your company is coming m
to help us out. Our chamber of com-
merce is doing everything possible to
place our town in first-class condition
and the merchants are putting forth
every effort to bring in trade from
both the north and south of us, and
these efforts are proving most success-
ful. They have spent an enormous
amount of money in building good
roads to the south and north of um, and
are beginning to redp the benefits in a
very noticeable way in the increase in
the amount of cotton being brought in-
to this market from the south, with a
proportionate increase in other prod-
ucts. These movements are being sys-
tematically developed through our
chamber of commerce. Wc believe that
these improvements are permanent
and will be carefully looked aftet;
Our commercial organization felt that
you would be interested in knowing
that wa art making a systematic effort
to develop the trade possibilities of
this territory. We have been suceess-
ful in getting • lot of business that
would have gone to Athens and to
