My heart is a little heavy this
week because we at the hospital
have lost a friend, a co-worker
and I guess about the best
patient I ever had — JUANITA
SHAW. I say my heart is heavy
and it is, but in my spirit there is
JOY because I KNOW SHE’S in
the presence of Jesus Christ. I
have just come from her funeral
-- a very sad and hard time but
on the other hand, I’ve come
from a victory service! Bro. Pete
gave a message of encourage-
ment and victory when he used
the scripture in Psalms 116:15,
“Precious in the sight of the
Lord is the death of his saints.”
Praise the Lord! I know she’s
there rejoicing with the angels,
sitting at the feet of Jesus.
pain and agony for a long time
but yet she always had the
desire to laugh at life — to cause
other people to smile. Juanita
was a person who never wanted
to ask people to do things for her
and I know one of the things that
hurt her most was to become
totally dependent upon others.
JUANITA SHAW
The funeral of Mrs. Juanita
Shaw, a well known Throckmor-
ton resident, was held Tuesday
afternoon, March 18, at the
United Methodist Church with
the Rev. Pete Bradfield, pastor
of First Baptist Church, and the
Rev. Edgar Jones of Wichita
Falls and Brother Will Scott,
minister of the local Church of
Christ, officiating.
Mrs. Shaw died Monday
morning following an illness of
several months. Burial, under
direction of Merriman Funeral
Home, was in Throckmorton
Cemetery. Bearers were Sam
Massey, Jim Coker, H. B.
Harvick, D. G. Smith, Norman
McCluskey, H. L. Martin and D.
D. Williams.
Juanita Bishop was born
Sept. 14, 1913 in Denton
County, Texas. She had been a
resident of Throckmorton 34
years. She was a nurse at
Throckmorton County Memorial
Hospital for several years.
She and Garland Shaw were
married Dec. 28, 1932 in Denton
County. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church of
Throckmorton and belonged to
the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are her husband of
the home; one son, Carson Shaw
of Austin; two daughters, Mrs.
Wanda Sumpter of Graham and
Mrs. Valene Lathan of Plano;
her mother, Mrs. P. W. Bishop
of Throckmorton; six grand-
children; two brothers, Alvin
Bishop of Blue Ridge, Texas and
Willis of Dallas; and three

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen
a more devoted family than her
husband, daughters, son -- the
entire family. I’ve seen them
give and give of themselves
until I thought it was beyond
human endurance. I’m sure
they will have a special reward
in heaven.
As for me, there will be some
regrets. I wish I had done some
things differently and we all
may have regrets in different
areas but we can’t live in this
realm but go on. One of these
days I will tell her face to face.
You've probably heard this before but I want to tell it
again. A new energetic Christian wanted to com-
municate his faith but lacked the language to do so.
He knocked on a door and when the man answered,
he asked, “Sir, are there any Christians here?"
“No," responded the man, “the Christians live
down the street. We are the Joneses. " “You don't
understand. I mean, are you lost?'' “Oh, no, " came
the reply, “we've lived here 25 years and know this
area very well. "
I don’t remember how long
Juanita had been sick. I know it
has been since I’ve been here in
Throckmorton. She has been in
I’m sure I’ve probably known
Juanita the shortest amount of
time of anyone in Throckmor-
ton. I CAN say as Mr. Scott said
in the service, Juanita was a
friend and we loved her. Each
one of us will remember
different things about Juanita.
When the end was very near
and Juanita was near uncon-
sciousness, she began saying
something very softly — it was
difficult to understand — then
the words came out. She was
singing, “Safe In The Arms of
Jesus.” She knew she was
almost THERE and truly she is
safe in the arms of Jesus!
“Well, I mean,'' said the witness, “are you ready for
the Judgment Day? " ‘ ‘I don't know, when is it going
to be?'' “Well, " he said, “it could be today and it
could be tomorrow. " “Well, " said the man, “don't
tell my wife, she'll want to go both days!"
See you next week, and remember...God sends trials
not to IMPAIR us but to IMPROVE us!
Bro. Pete
